And after that re-start ... more changes were made to improve the starting options for both sides ... and so .. finally with version 1.4 we re-start again ... and begin the AAR from June 5th at the point the landings in the P.I. are initiated.

So far the ship losses have gone our way. A critical victory was catching the two fast minelayers based at Manilla attempting to sow their first field at Lingayen ... this happened on the 2nd day of the war by one of our CA/DD groups.

Today, there are numerous small battles at the entrances to Manilla Bay ( interestingly on this map the mouth of Manilla Bay is 2 hexes across or 120 miles, versus the real world distance of 12 miles ... it certainly makes the blocade more difficult !!! )

We succeed in picking off 2 USN DD stragglers from yesterdays, DD battles and also bump into a number of other freighters attemting to bring in troops and supplies.

Area of primary activity is aroudn Luzon. We have CL, DD and subs trying to blocade Manilla Bay and our main landings going in at Lingayen. Enemy are trying to bring in supplies to Bataan and opposing our landings with subs.

6/10 was relatively quiet ... 6/11 sees 2 cruiser/destroyers actions one near Lingayen and again the USN DDs try to break through to the transports and another at the Northern entrance to Manilla Bay as the USN tries to Break the blocade. And though the USN suceeds in driving off our light ODD force, a fresh CA/DD group arrives on station in that hex at the end of the turn.

We lose 3 ODD for one new USN DD sunk but there are cripples on both sides ...

This is the DD action at the Northern entrance to Manilla Bay ... we lose three ODD and damage some of the USN DD ... a fresh CA/DD group arrives on station at the end of the turn, to replace the ODD unit.

It is diffficult to maintain a sufficiently tight blocade, continuously, this far from base ( Pescadores ).

Kind of posting every other day now ... 12th was pretty quiet ... 13th is more of the same ... blocade and coutner-blocade efforts around Manilla, we continue to unload cargo at Lingayen. The Felixstowe Patrol unit is now active at Lingayen, commanded by non-other than M. Fuchida ! Once they train up a bit, they will ease the pressure on our forces from the enemy subs based at Manilla.

Well considering none of them sank .. hence all of them made it into port .. and thus all of them will probably deliver at least some if not all of their cargoes ... we'd have to call this a major defeat ... but how did we get hits ? By firing our multitudinous medium and small caliber cruiser weapons at the essentially defenseless ( armed with MGs only ) merchant ships as they steamed by ... in the bright sun light !!!

Of course, I can't explain why our 20 knot ships couldn't run down their 10 knot ships ... [&:]

( IRL I would've expected to have sunk all but 1 or 2 of them ... but hey .. this is a game !!! So we didn't sink any of them .... [;)] )

Fascinating :)

In my game with CAPT I sent all armed vessels to Lingayen, starting a major 4-day engagement. As a result, I haven't seen a single Japanese surface vessel near Manila and most of my transports made it to Bataan unscathed... save for a couple bruised by torpedoes.

Battle of the Giants !
Today was the day the USN "Banzai-ed" with their Manilla based gunboats ... not sure why .. they were doing a good job of using their hulls to protect shipping in the Bay .. but we won't argue with the results, 5 of the pesky suquers went down today.

More blocade/counter-blocade battles around Luzon ... our over all plan here is to use "expendables" ( CA/CL/DD ) to try to control the sea around Luzon .. while training up the BBs with milk run bombardment/interdiction runs in the central and Southern Solomons. We are moving all available Divisions, Artillery and CE Regiment to Luzon and using the 2 available Naval Infantry Units to start invading the Central and Southern PI. At the same time, minelaying activities around begining in the Marshalls with about half of the minelayers, while the other half continue to defensively mine Formosa.
