Whew! Argus' escorts earned their pay today. It was quite nerve-wracking, one lucky hit on the Argus would really have ruined my day. The weather turned lousy again - wasn't able to launch any airstrikes before or after the battle.

Moral of this story is not to send a regiment to do a division's job. Got a little overconfident after successes in the Marshal Islands, and thought with his attention diverted there and in China I could sneak in and steal Wake from him. Oops. With no reserves I had little choice but to withdraw what little of the 35th Regiment that was left before I lost it entirely.

Port fuel hits 1

It is now confirmed that BB Kaga was sunk from 13.5” guns over 100 miles off Camranh Bay after the 3/17/1923 Battle of the South China Sea. This is the same battle in which BB Barham was also lost. Sonar hits from passing DDs had led to speculation that a large ship had sunk in the area, but it wasn't until today that British intellegence confirmed it was the Kaga.
