This is my ( jwilkerson ) first attempt to do an AAR. I have been playing first UV for several years, then WITP and now WPO.
The scenario Capt and I are playing is a variant of stock scenario 7. I have removed all forces and bases other than Japanese and USA. The scenario is set in the early part of the scenario 7 timeframe 31 May 22 through 11 Nov 23 ( this last date was picked as the end point, because it is the next presidential election, figuring that if the US was doing well, the war would continue, if the US was doing poorly, the new administration might change policy ( i.e. end the war ).
Other than that, the VP levels for the P.I. bases have been leveled ( same value for US as for Japanese ). This makes sense in this scenario because we are focusing on the return of the US to the P.I. per WPO. The particular version of WPO which would been likely to have been used at this point is referred to as the "Cautionary" plan ( per Miller ). And is characterized by the idea of creating temporary bases along the route of advance through the Marshalls, Carolines and Marianas. This is as contrasted to the "Thruster" variation which was not ( in theory ) going to stop along the way ( from H.I. to P.I. ).
Since I built the scenario I gave Capt a choice as to sides, and he chose the USA.
I moved all the IJA Divisions back to the Home Islands and reassigned them to the Home Defense command, likewise all West Coast US forces were reassigned to 9 Corps. But, both sides were given 15000 PP to start thus enabling subtantial forces to be released by both sides.
Also, although I did not change the daily supply and fuel totals for Japan ( relative to scenario 7 ) I substantially relocated them overseas to represent WPO planners correct estimation that while Japan's greatest strength was her distance from Blue bases, her greatest weakness was dependence on overseas trade. Thus Korea, Port Arthur and Tsingtao representing trade nexae, have substantial daily supply and fuel ( coal ) totals, while 3 "neutral" bases, Singapore, Palembang and Tolobali also see substantial daily supply and fuel totals.
Note that Singapore, Palembang and Tolobali are "Neutral" ports but this is represented by making them Japanese bases. This gives rise to our only "house rule" which is that these bases may only be used by Japanese transport fleets loading supply and fuel. I made the level 1 ports to indicate slowness of loading ( by neutral dockworkers ) and to prevent Japan from "disbanding" ships into these ports. And neither side may bring land units into these three bases.
Also both sub doctrines are off ( so no complaining from us about "subs in the pacific" !!! ) and there are no house rules other than the use of the "neutral" ports.
Japan's intial plan is very straight forward. Capture the P.I., Guam and Wake quickly and then prepare to fight the US fleet. I have not decided ( yet ) how much effort to make in terms of buulding up the Marshalls, Carolines and Marianas, but obviously building up the P.I. will be the priority. I will try to operate the bulk of the long range submarines, as far forward as possible.
And to offer a little perspective, here is the strategic map view. Notice that all bases other than Japanese and US have been removed from this scenario ( a variant of stock scenario 7 ).
Several dull days, but today 6/10/22 we had some action.

And finally the score card ... I've been busy building up bases, so the total is a little inflated, at start ( in this scenario ) the Allies actually have about 5000 points, the Japanese about 4900.
Did you left french CA loan in your moded scenario? They might be very annoying for advancing IJN in PI... [:)]
Not that I know of ... everything ( ships ) with Nation set to either IJN or USN should still be here ... otherwise, it should not still be here ( I did not otherwise remove anything from the Naval OB ).
Well the USN second DD Division came into Lingayen this turn and did better, trading 1 DD for one of ours ( which we ultimately had to scuttle ) in combat with the close escort force. And that nasty USN sub SS06 put two torpedoes into a transport which we ultimately scuttled.
But the good news was that 3 IJA Infantry Divisions at Lingayen were able to defeat the 3 Infantry Companies of the USA 1/15th Inf and the advance off the beachhead has begun !

The invasions of Wake and Guam went in this turn. Wake had been reinforced by the "C" regiment+ of the Hawaii Division, hence our "A" Regiment+ of the 2nd DIvision will need to be reinforced. Guam's coastal guns are still nasty even after several days of preceeding bombardment, but the landing continues.
The USN P.I. gunboat force meets its doom against cruiser and destroyer forces defending our landings at Lingayen.
Our forces which are assembling off Legaspi, bump into a US transport force and take a toll.

06/13/22, Guards Division went in at Legaspi, 10th Div reversed course, heading for Marcus and then on to Wake to reinforce the 2nd Div/A. Guam landings continue, Cagayan Landings ( 5th Div ) about to go in. 18th Div captured Clark and spots 17 units in Bataan hex ( none in Manilla ) !
Score card. Note that in this scenario the VP values for the P.I. hexes have been leveled ( US values have been raised to be same as Japanese values ). As the WPO planning at this point focused on obtaining a base in the P.I. ( in phase II ) from which to commence the blocade of Japan ( phase III ) re-capturing the P.I. needs to be an over-riding priority for the Americans, hence the higher values.
They will give the Japanese a larger total early in the war, but if the US can re-capture the P.I. will make a significantly greater difference down the road ( at least that is the theory ! ).
IJN Battleline was minding its own business at the mouth of Lingayen Gulf, when 2 USN Destroyers come back up for more action ... both wound up being sunk ...
Landings at Cagayan begin. 18 Div ordered to Manilla. 10th Div steaming for Wake. Battleline will head for Tokyo, refuel and steam to Wake. Battlecruisers will also return, gas up and head back to Wake. Wake is our biggest vulnerability at this point. If the USN can show up with their heavy ships, it may be possible for them to kick us off and ultimately we may not get Wake. But they will have a tough time sustaining themselves out there - tougher than we will at this point. But we don't won't to fight the "decisive battle" at this time ... at Wake ... we can't sufficiently concentrate.

Japanese forces CAPTURE Legaspi base !!! Guards Division will now advance towards Manilla. [8D]
Relatively quiet day ... but Guam seems like it will be a tough as Wake ... so probably need a DIvision there as well ... I beefed up the fortifications at both Guam and Wake ( to level 6 ) and that is stopping my "regimental groups" cold. Will take full divisions to take those places now. At least the group on Guam is in fairly good shape. THe one on Wake probably couldn't with stand a decent counterattack ! The 10th Division is about a week West of Wake on Transports, the Battlefleet are about the same amount of time away and the BC fleet are returning home to re-arm, now that the troops have all unloaded ...
Also now that Manilla is confirmed empty, all the planning for all the Luzon units has been switched from Manilla to Bataan. I happy that he has choosen to stand in Bataan the 4x effect of Manilla usually seems tougher ( at least in WITP ! ).

Slower turn this time, so we'll show you part of the ( emerging ) plan in one of the currently slowest - but soon to be hottest - area on the map ( the Marshalls ).
I have not assuming Wake is a push over at this point.
From a Naval perspective, the P.I. is well in hand ... I will leave all the current cruisers and destroyers in the P.I. area however all the dreadnoughts are comming East. WIth sufficient ASW escort but nothing more. The cruisers and destroyers remaining in the home islands are suffficient to flush out the fleet. And the Battlecruiser force is already east, so this will join all the dreadnought ships together.
Our purpose is still only to take Wake, but the USN has the ability to massively intervene at least in terms of a hit and run. And actually, we might just as soon avoid meeting up with such a raid; however we will greatly increase our strength in the area in case we see an opportunity to need it ( I expect to need it ! ). We will place a couple of sub lines in the area to help detect something proceeding forth.
In the mean time 10th Div is passing through the Bonins and will pass near Marcus at least if we consider it necessary to top off or regroup. So this unit will go into Wake within a week. Currently a CL/DD force is at Marcus and is loading up to make a fast trans run to Wake. We've only got 600 out of 700 required in the 2nd Div/A unit which is on Marcus. He has part ( I estimate 80% ) of the Hawaii Div/C and one base force and is level 6.
Other than that, 12th Div and 1 Arty Regiment are moving into the Bataan peninsula. 18th is clearing up the damage at Manilla and waiting for the Guards to come up from Legaspi ( they have 1 turn left of unloading ). The 13th Div is moving to Clark from Lingayen. The 7 Eng are at Lingayen expanding the port.
A large basefore and the 2 hex range Flying Boat unit ( 8 planes ) will be landing this turn at Lingayen.
The 5 DD ASW TF we have operting in the Gulf has reduced the sub effectiveness of the enemy who still has about 6 subs in the hex and we have over the last 3 turns, knocked out 2 of his subs there. The Flying Boat unit should improve still further the ASW ability of the Lingayen beach head.
( we will also try to sneak a small supply convoy ( 10-20000 supply ) into Legaspi into about a week.
Our Dreadnought report is that the Ise is returning to Tokyo for repairs, she is at 24 sys damage, all the other dreadnoughts will be in Tokyo in 3-4 days and are all 3 sys dmg or less.
So here is the view of the Marshalls. Again this area is quiet now ( no enemy detected since start of war ) but we are starting our build up as we expect them in strength in from 2-4 months.
