Questions & Confusions

This revised and updated turn-based grand strategy game from the team at AGEOD brings players back to World War I, including both the Eastern and Western fronts and over 4 campaigns and 10 scenarios. As either a member of the Central Powers, the Entente or a neutral nation, players will confront the epic gauntlet of military and political challenges that faced the likes of Kitchener, Joffre, Luddendorf, Clemenceau, Czar Nicholas II or Enver Pasha.

Questions & Confusions

Post by tgb »

Well, after determining that the people having technical issues either got pre-order copies directly from Ageod or had problems with Great Invasions, neither of which applied to me, and finding $50 I had nothing better to do with, I decided to take a chance. I've only played the first two tutorials, and read the skimpy manual twice, but I do see the germ of a good game here. I haven't had any crashes or (I don't think)A.I. hangs (more on that later), but I do have some questions given the crappy documentation:

1) I get how initiative works - the side that rolls for initiative can choose to go first or second in each front. But a few pages later, the manual claims the game uses a WEGO system. Is it me, or is there a contradiction there?

2) The manual states that an army can contain up to 6 corps (not counting reserves and support), but on the next page goes on to state that it can command 7, 8, or 12 corps depending. I'm assuming those additional corps are detached. Is this right?

3) The siege part of the 2nd tutorial appears to be broken. Not only did the defender never assign a corps to defend the walls, as stated in the tutorial, but I got no feedback at all as to the siege's success or failure. In fact, if it hadn't been possible to click the "Delay Siege" button, I would have thought the game had locked up.

4) I'm having the same issue with merging armies/corps as I did in AACW - it's real tough to find the "sweet spot" that merges them, as opposed to dropping it in the same area. Not as critical here as AACW, but annoying, nonetheless. Also, drag-dropping armies doesn't always take. It would be nice if there was an alternative way to move them.

That's all I have so far, but I haven't played around with the diplomatic/tech/economic portions yet, and strategy cards remain a mystery - they are covered nowhere in the manual or the tutorial.

Not having the game i can only answer to 4) which relates to AACW. If you want to merge armies, all you need to do is to drop a stack onto another. If the stacks are in the same region, you can also drop a stack onto the other stack's TAB or a TAB onto the other. Nothing simpler.

You can be sure you did it right when 2 stacks are in different regions, that if you did it right, the stack going to merge on the other one has the new intercept icon on top of it. This stack will move regardless of what the other one does, to intercept and merge the other one.

Given the SIZE of stacks and the fact u can still zoom on them, i find it hard to believe you've got problems to merge them...anyway i hope the 2 aforementioned methods work for you. [:)]

Hi

My experience with the game is very limited (tutorials and little more) but i know some answers...

1- Check the options menu (not availible on tutorials). There you can select between different game play modes: pure WEGO (like other AGEOD games) or with initiative and activation to order movements.
The latter seem to be just like on the boardgame. But i have heard betas with long boardgame experience recommending to use the more streamlined pure WEGO for the PC version as it seems to be a better and less convoluted way of playing.
For a new player (specially if he will not miss the gameplay of the boardgame) pure WEGE seems like the best option.

3- No, its not broken, but the wording is a little confusing. On that tutorial you have only two cavalry corps there and they can't really assault the fortifications (so no need for the Germans to commit his defenders). You don't have heavy guns either so maintaining /delaying the siege is your only option.
Later (on tutorial 3 i think) you will have the opportunity to assault with infantry (and get kicked in the ass by the defenders [;)]

4- Funny, i also have a difficult time merging on WW1 (people report that playing with the counters option help in this), but find mering and drag and dropping on AACW and other AGEOD games extremely easy and intuitive.

For the other question i don't know the answer.
In any case i'm sure you will get answers faster (and better [:D]) on AGEOD forums where developers and betas post answers continually.
Regards
