WOW....loading time??

This revised and updated turn-based grand strategy game from the team at AGEOD brings players back to World War I, including both the Eastern and Western fronts and over 4 campaigns and 10 scenarios. As either a member of the Central Powers, the Entente or a neutral nation, players will confront the epic gauntlet of military and political challenges that faced the likes of Kitchener, Joffre, Luddendorf, Clemenceau, Czar Nicholas II or Enver Pasha.

WOW....loading time??

Post by JudgeDredd »

That is some amount of loading time for this game.

I only wanted to load the turorial and it took a fair whack...wouldn't be surprised if it was close to 5 mins...I'll check tonight if anyone at all is interested!

It really ought to be shorter than that. I have a quad core 2.33 intel and 4GB DDR2 ram!

There must be some problem (game configuration maybe?? conflicts with other applications??)
My computer is 5 years old and the game and scenarios load times are pretty fast… at least the small ones.
Once in game its slower, but the loading times for me are shorter than on other AGEOD games…
Try asking in the AGEOD forum. Probably Calvinus can help.

If I check the load whole map option, loading time increases immensly on my system.[>:]
But I dont check the option [8D], scrolling works quite smooth with out it for me.

P.S. Option is available with the WW1Configurator executable

I found unchecking the 'load whole map' box really decreaded loading times.

Not that it's worth loading.

The new 104d patch has really smoothed the game out. I bet it will reduce your load time (mine was about the same-sometimes 5 minutes can seem like forever). It is a beta, but well worth it.

BTW, I get those beta's from Ageod-there is no problem. I'll take the official patches from Matrix.

That's what I've done now...unticked the load whole map option

As for the game itself, I haven't played as yet. Loaded the first tutorial and found it painful on the eyes with all the stuff I had to read on a semi-transparent dialog.

Lots of text. I hate tutorials like this. They truly make my eyes bleed.

The manual seems to be all over the place on the first couple of pages I read...for example, on one page it lists the phases of a turn. On the other, it starts off by telling you what is involved in the combat phase, then proceeds to list some of the other phases, so the phase descriptions are out of order. And it doesn't give a detailed description for ALL phases....redeployment is missing.

Not a very good manual and not a very good tutorial, which is quite a bad pitch being as they are both initial things a gamer will see.

When I get some time, I might post my findings on gameplay.

Installed Patch 1.04 and it was even worse(although I did load a 1914 scenario this time instead of the tutorial)...4 mins!!

I'll just uncheck the load whole map option again.

Judge D.

You can get the most recent beta from Ageod-they are up to 104d. You will save yourself a lot of pain if you get the most recent patch. The beta can be found here-

Its actually an "official" patch now.

The patches seem to turn off the opening video. If you're looking at a blsck screen for awhile, hit ESC.

I start the game with full map and streaming music turned on.

Time from initial start to scenario choice: 45 seconds.
Time to load scenario map: approx 75 seconds.
Time to load scenario (saved campaign): 30 seconds.

Total time: 2.5 minutes.

In the initial release, it took my PC well over 5 minutes to load-perhaps close to 10.

BTW, I have disabled the intro video; it plays in a 1 inch by 1/2 inch block on the top left of my screen-not worth the time or trouble for me.
