Updated Manual (low-res) uploaded to the Members Club!!!

We have uploaded the new low-res version of the Game Manual to our Members Club. You can download this manual as a Registered Download as long as you have registered your World War One serial number in our Members Club (click on the MEMBERS link in the top nav bar).

EDIT: Just to clear up some confusion/concerns that have come up in this thread, the Manual will be made generally available once we are able to convert this Manual to our layout. We wanted to give those who have registered the game in our members club a chance to get an earlier peek at it.

I'm not entirely sure I agree with the sentiment that you have to register the game in order to get an essential piece of it.

In my view, that's taking a turn along the lines of other protection systems.

Matrix Games has already got the best copy protection system out there...trust in it's customers. Don't spoil that by introducing this measure.

If you want to add additional content (not required for the game to work) or add extra graphic mods or a printout of the map...fine...add it to the members area and ask people to register the game to get them...but don't ask me to register the game in order to get something that should've been with the game anyway!

Just voicing my concerns that one has to register a game in order to get the finished product. I don't like it. It's a step away from Matrix normaly good policy. It's certainly not along the same lines as the more draconian measures, but I still don't like it.

If it's an essential part of the game, you should not need to register to get it.

With all due respect, that's a serious overreaction. This is just temporary, the manual is available publicly at the AGEOD site and will be in all future official public updates both there and here, which don't require registration. We won't have the resources to convert this to our layout for a few weeks, so from our perspective for Matrix customers it's a "beta" manual.

Thanks for clearing that up Erik.  I hate Steam, Stardock, etc.. and all their DRM stuff, and hidden registry junk that monitors you.  I get nervous anytime things "appear" to be tightening up.  Sorry for the overreaction.  I have been hanging around Wargamer forums to much and proabably just paranoid from listening to Ghostryder.

That's fair enough. One of the options I accidentally ommitted from my post was beta releases. If this manual is in fact a beta release then I'm fine with people registering in order to get it.

It isn't an over-reaction with regard to the original post which states the manual is available if you register. The manual released with the game was a ridiculous joke.To register for it seemed ludicrous and adding salt to an already gaping wound...it is, after all, an essential part of this game.

I didn't read anything about a BETA manual, so didn't make that connection.

I'm a very, very pleased customer with your policy on copy protection and give you my full support. I read the original post differently and saw a new direction. I apologise.

Can someone explain to me what the difference is between an lo-res and the eventual hi-res manual that will be released? I'm trying to figure out if one is more printer friendly than the other which would result in the use of less ink......

As the screen you're reading this on is a 96 DPI (lo-res) device there's no quality difference between reading a 100 DPI pdf manual and a 300 DPI (hi-res) pdf manual on your screen, hence developers save on filesize to download as a 300 DPI pdf file is much bigger than a 100 DPI pdf file.

However, the difference becomes visible when you print it with the 300 DPI version being sharper. This does not equal more ink as a 300 DPI printer will interpolate, filling in the blanks so to say, the "missing" dots.

Sometimes the developers provide you with a pure-white background version of the pdf file, which is harsh to the eyes for reading on the screen, but will save you a lot on ink as the white does not get printed (apart from high-range white printing printers). It's almost always in 300 DPI. This version is the one you should print.

Additional : people almost freaking out over what is incorrectly seen as a first step away from the current copy protection scheme : it tells you how emotional and deep the feeling over this has become.

Thanks for the explanation...I have been printing out the current manual and at times copied/pasted the text to WORD and printing that because I do not want to waste the ink on all of the "bells and whistles" photographs..they are nice to look at but not very printer ink friendly...

Things have changed drastically in the past 3 months. The full manual has been available for quite some time.
