At Midway USN def. IJN 3:1 :)

The first day, I quickly moved my CVs to the NE of Midway, keeping Yorktown at the front.

The second day, my Catalina dawn patrols found the IJN carriers close to Midway, just in range of the island and most of my embarked ACs (but outside fighter range alas). I immediately launched a massive strike, which resulted in the following:

Soryu, Hiryu, Akagi sunk shortly thereafter, whereas Kaga was just put out of commission and withdrew to the west. I took heavy A/C losses, mostly to CAP, as was expected. Meanwhile, Midway took moderate damage from repeated attacks.

The enemy CVs had managed to launch a strike on me just before my attack arrived, and I couldn't launch enough CAP to blunt this attack (my mistake! should have had full CAP after launching the strike, but I forgot!), which with a 58% hit ratio killed Hornet, while Yorktown and Enterprise took some damage but remained operational. I also lost Minneapolis to this attack.

The following mop-up raids in the afternoon killed three Japanese CAs, crippled another, and also killed the patrol aircraft tenders and a DD; the Japanese withdrew.

Not bad for my second attempt at the game. I enjoyed it immensely.
