OOB display error

Post by Fred98 »

Refer p16 of the manual: IMPORTANT NOTE

"By using the TAB key players can ascertain at a glance the commmand relationships of all his on-map units."

See the 2 screen shots below:

In the first, units were transfered from the Second Regiment to the First Regiment. The numbers should now read 1-1 but incorrectly read 1-2

I wasn't sure if this was a bug or designed as intended at first, so I did a little bit of thinking. Technically the OOB window does update the command structure (Schematic) correctly. Though the regiment values (tab-key) reflect the original starting values.

I can see value in knowing the original values, since often (other wargames) mixing units to different HQ's often give a permanent penalty until re-sorted back to originals. It's possible some penalties like this were planned in an earlier development phase.

Anyhow, all things being equal I am going to side with you on this one (I think). I can see the odd situation come up where on a crowded map, and a player who doesn't like to use the OOB window could make a few mistakes here and there.

I'd go for keeping it as is. As you say the OOB window shows the correct schematic for current organic organisation. In game you wouldn't change the names of the attached units - that would be confusing. Additionally the Show Regiment report correctly displays all the units and the unit data box on the right hand side shows the correct Reg HQ, i.e. the attached one.

You need to select a HQ first, and then the Show Regiment report will be available.

You'll have to look carefully to see how it indicates units in the regiment though. The NATO icon for a unit in that regiment is unchanged while in non-regimental units the NATO icon space changes to show the word HQ and a small unit type symbol. Try it and you'll see what I mean [;)]

Actually if you select "2"  and select a HQ it highlights all the units under a leader.

And you can still see the HQ that they originally belonged to.

As a result I am happy as it is and this thread can now be clsed.

You know, this is ironic because the more I think about it, the more I am in favour of Joe's original proposal, despite I am now outvoted on this viewpoint.

When I have a lot of units, instead of using reports, I like to press Tab once to check my Div/Reg's command structures and make sure I don't entangle them because I want to mass attack without any co-op penalties. Since this is showing original data (out of date), then I can see where some mistakes may end up happening.

Am I the only one who moves units in this fashion?
