CEAW

Post by prurpnit »

I am playing an AI game as the allies. I have granted an advantage in the initial setup to the Axis. Notwithstanding that fact, I managed to invade France in 1941 and stand not far from Berlin in mid 43.

What I have noticed, however, is that the German armour gets stronger and stronger every turn, notwithstanding that my research level for armour is 4 (and I've increased it the very moment I've had sufficient lab points) , that the germans seem to have unlimited resources and that their oil consumption seems to be huge.

When my armour now fights German armour, the German armour will inflict huge damage on mine, even if mine is entrenched. In short, I can't build enough troops to defend my territory and when I do fight a battle I get hammered, even though the quality of my best Russian troops should be as high as is possible in game terms, given how much resource I've devoted to lab research. Further, convoys to Russia generate somewhere between 11 and 111 points-usually c 60 pts-not enough to keep Russia in replacements/new units.

What am I doing wrong?

The number of labs you can have is linked to your industrial output. Germany has many more labs at the start of the game so can develop much quicker if it invests in tech, but may be short on units. Later on the allies will catch up. With Russia give ground until you're able to compete on equal terms.

Thanks for your comments. I do understand this-but what can the Russian do? the Germans are at Moscow and there's not a lot I can do to stop them capturing it. For some reason they make no attempt to capture Leningrad (even though they've surrounded it and I only have 1 corps in occupation) but as soon as they do attack I think they'll take it-leaving me only Perm. As I have no army left to speak of (even Zhukov within 2 hexes of Moscow has done nothing to improve my armour units defensive capabilities and I now have only 6 armour units (all stationed a hex or so from Moscow), one or two isoloated partisans and a couple of corps garrisoning Kiev/Odessa) they'll soon conquer Perm. I was hoping that their profligate use of oil would slow them, but it seems not.
