What to buy? BiN or BiI?

Battles In Italy is the fourth game in the award-winning Decisive Battles of WWII game series from Strategic Studies Group. Battles in Italy recreates all aspects of the Italy campaign, from the landings on Sicily to Salerno, Anzio and Rome. Strategic Studies Group has again updated the Decisive Battles game engine for Battles in Italy with campaign specific features and other enhancements.

What to buy? BiN or BiI?

Post by Freedom205 »

Been away from SSG for way too long, (have played all their games up to Korsun Pocket) and dont know which of the two to get. I like the idea of the Normandy landings, but I hear the updates in BiI enhance play. Also, which of the two have more scenarios available on Run5?

The same question with a great discussion is posted somewhere here or on Run5 (I can't find it now). So here's a quick recap[:)] First consideration is if you like Normandy or Italy better. BII has more varied scenarios available. 76 turn BIN campaign is available now... 80 turn BII campaign will be available soon.

Specific considerations are:

1. BII is significantly better game engine (although not as obvious as the very significant BIN improvements over KP).

2. BII has better set of Run5 scenarios released. War in Europe, Opn Merkur, Patton Master of Battle, and MacArthur Master of Battle are all exceptionally good battles (either not available in BIN or they are much better than their BIN versions). Rommel Master of Battle is equally good in both BIN and BII.

3. BII has three Pete AU battles (Burma, Rocori -1643, and Crimea 1854) where BIN only has the Crimea 1854 available. The non-WWII battles are really well done. Haven't played Burma to comment on it.

4. BIN has the advantage in having TAO4 (TAO5 for BII has not been released) and Kursk (not updated for BII).

Good solution!

I have both and absolutely loved BiN. Though BiI offers a great series of battles - Sicily is a treat for example, Normandy represents 1 cohesive campaign and therefore holds my attention more.
