The Campaign

Korsun Pocket is a the second game using the award winning SSG Decisive Battles game engine. Korsun Pocket recreates the desperate German attempt to escape encirclement on the Russian Front early in 1944. The battle is a tense and exciting struggle, with neither side having a decisive advantage, as the Russians struggle to form the pocket, then try to resist successive German rescue efforts and last ditch attempts at breakout.

The Campaign

Post by Peter Fisla »

Since SSG/Matrix made announcement recently about Kharkov game based on the DB series and Battlefront, I got this operational itch to scratch. So I have decided to play KP, BIN, BII and Battlefront before Kharkov comes out. Red the 8 KP tutorials and started the 48 turn campaign as German Player against Russian computer player. The Russian onslaught has been very strong...I tried to stop them in few areas by some small counter attacks but I realized very quickly that it's much better to come up with a strong defensive line and just hold the line! From the East the pressure is high...I have been trying hard to keep the line as strong as possible though the Russians always find a while doing few punches per turn. On the west side my forces are slowly being pushed to the east, for the most part the situation is bearable. The Small Russian pocket in the left part of the map is very hard to get rid off as I don't have enough units to kill them off....yet...but I think it need to take care of this before the front on the left side of the map gets pushed to this area. I got some reinforcements in the past few turns and I'm trying to preserve every single unit. Don't have enough replacements...but perhaps now in turn 15 I have a little more room to breath. On the east side of the map I was pushed back from the original line about half way where the defensive line is created with strong points and I'm trying hard to hold the line! I have decided to not to make any quick counter attacks on the east side of the map as I need every single soldier or a tank to hold the line. I haven't really red any book on the subject of Korsun Pocket but it's crystal clear to me that Germans got beaten here pretty badly. I'm currently winning by about 880 points. I have to say I'm having a blast with KP as I have never really played the CG beyond few turns...it's all new to me!

After I finish playing all the DB games, Battlefront and Kharkov I'm really hoping that SSG will make a game about Stalingrad (tactical scale - company level perhaps), that's my ultimate dream!

Cheers!

Yeah, nice narative!

Strangely enough, Korson is my favorite in the series, although I don't own BII.

I do have the Dneper add on, along with BIN, and BF.

I'm a decent Chess player, but these games are to me, far more challenging!

The level of complexity that goes into the movement and hex side attacking and defense, suffice it to say I will probably never achieve grognard ability! lol
