Korsun Pocket is a the second game using the award winning SSG Decisive Battles game engine. Korsun Pocket recreates the desperate German attempt to escape encirclement on the Russian Front early in 1944. The battle is a tense and exciting struggle, with neither side having a decisive advantage, as the Russians struggle to form the pocket, then try to resist successive German rescue efforts and last ditch attempts at breakout.
I just would like to you let you know that I have a copy of TAO3 CD coming my way from Roger Keating (SSG), I should have it within 2 weeks. The game is still under construction, though I can share with you what I will get. So get your questions ready, mind you I don't call myself an experten on topic of wargames so please ask direct questions
Assuming you have the CD of TAO3 and have had time to play it:
Is the supply system more sophisticated than TAO2? Do supply units still feature or have HQ's (if represented) taken over that responsibility?
In Korsun are Soviet infantry divisions represented by three regiments or only one unit?
Is the replay function available to head to head players as well as to those who pbem?
Finally(!), will there be any provision for team games by pbem? We tried with TAO2 but it was difficult.
I appreciate you may not be able to answer all of these questions but some answers and your overview with details of any major changes would be welcome.
1) From what I saw Supply works generally the same as in TAO2. Meaning you still have supply trucks and supply sources, I believe though Roger is looking at the whole system and there will most probably be some changes. The whole system is still under construction so I don't really want to go into details....I will take a look and see what I can find out for you.
2) About the Soviet Infantry in KP, I don't know I will take a look at it tonight and I will get back to you on that one.
3,4) multiplayer features in KP are still under construction so I can't answer that question, sorry.
Joe 98:
TAO3 = Korsun Pocket. TAO3 is really an internal name, Korsun Pocket is the official name. Of course The Ardennes Offensive scenario in its updated form will be present in KP.
Keep those question coming guys, I will try to answer as much as I can...
I'm currently working on porting the Meuse scenario from TAO2 to KP, it will take a while to get done because there is still some work to do for Roger in the editor. KP editor will be a strong feature in the KP release and I figured I will give something to the comunity as well.
The Ardennes offensive had a very basic combat resolution and unit details which is just fine with me but I was wondering if this has in any way been changed.
Soviet infantry divisions are represented by regiments just like in TAO but some of these regiments. will have 4 units instead of 3.
US:
Combat logic is still under development, however I saw that combat resolution will be done with two dices instead of one. There will probably be more but I can't say right now.
Many thanks for the quick reply. Its actually hard to come up with questions for this game because its engine is so well known by a large number of Adennes Offensive players. If you (Peter Fisla) played TAO2 much then perhaps you know about changes and could inform us. Otherwise its difficult to come up with anyhting to ask.
