SSG to split

Korsun Pocket is a the second game using the award winning SSG Decisive Battles game engine. Korsun Pocket recreates the desperate German attempt to escape encirclement on the Russian Front early in 1944. The battle is a tense and exciting struggle, with neither side having a decisive advantage, as the Russians struggle to form the pocket, then try to resist successive German rescue efforts and last ditch attempts at breakout.

SSG to split

Post by gus »

Saw this posted on the SSG web site (www.ssg.com.au) over the weekend and was wondering if anyone had any insight into the impact this will have (or not) on KP?

Also, does anyone have any idea when KP is scheduled for release? are we looking at April or May now?

Thanks

Gus

It might be that the wargamers have split from the fantasy gamers

The SSG website continues to say that game will be released in the second half of 2002

SOunds a reasonable split. Infinite take the Warlords series (so that the graphics don't plug up the TAO2 directory ? ;) , and SSG concentrate on good historical strategy.

Just hope they can concentrate and get KP done, without Warlords IV in the way!

He'res hoping it comes before second half 2003

I have a free hand from SSG and Roger Keating to represent them in public and to talk about their projects. I can tell you that the split of SSG will have no impact on release of KP. If KP will be success with wargamers further projects are planned down the road :)

Peter

PS: I just got a new build of KP yesterday, Roger is currently focusing on AI module.

Great news Peter! I was getting a bit anxious due to the SSG split news and the relative inactivity of this forum. Good to know that things are moving along.

BTW, any word on a release date?

Cheers

Ah, a sign of life of KP again;)
Speaking of the release date...I´d like to get the game as a birthday gift for myself...that would be in October...can I write it on my wishlist?

Does this mean we have to wait till October 2003?

The Matrix - SSG announcement was made in Oct 2001 and I understand SSG was working on KP for 6 months or more before that.

No, I believe more likely late spring or early summer.

The old KP was more similar to original TAO, one scenario (Korsun Pocket) no editor , AI similar to TAO, I have the code. The new KP that you will get is a complete rewrite, new advanced engine, including advanced AI, powerful scenario editor and more.

Peter

Are you willing to answer a question about the editor?

If so will the editor allow me to create battles for the east AND west front? Desert hexes too?

I didn't have much time yet to fully explore the editor but the build of KP that I have has two scenarios: The Ardennes Offensive and Korsun Pocket so you can do East and West scenarios. I have noticed that each scenario has it's own graphics tile set which you can make yourself as this is BMP file format, so making desert tiles set for your scenario is possible. You can make your own maps. You can also modify the crt tables as well as terrain data cost for supply trucks, leg, horse, wheel and tank. You also define AI groups, AI regions - don't know yet what exactly that means.
