Couple of questions.

Korsun Pocket is a the second game using the award winning SSG Decisive Battles game engine. Korsun Pocket recreates the desperate German attempt to escape encirclement on the Russian Front early in 1944. The battle is a tense and exciting struggle, with neither side having a decisive advantage, as the Russians struggle to form the pocket, then try to resist successive German rescue efforts and last ditch attempts at breakout.

Couple of questions.

First I want to say what a great game. I am a big fan of wargames, operational level ones are even better. Im a long time player of TOAW and am enjoying my time with this immensely, until I start getting whooped in PBEM games. But any how...

1) Where on earth are all the scenarios? Like I said I loved TOAW and the main reason for that was the abundance of scenarios. The game comes with 2 scenarios which is nice. Run5 has a couple. Also you have ATD. That's it. Am I missing other good sites? Why arent we seeing more scenarios out there? I mean the entire Italian Theatre, N. Africa, Early war Poland-France, including Norway. None of these. Do wargame scenario designers not like the game? I want more scenarios. I have played each scenario from both sides and won them. I want more!!

2) Is there a better way to handle supply? A way to supply your troops by air? For instance, in playing the TAO scenario, I have a unit with 2 bullets, I attack a unit, overrun it and then speed on ahead. Now I have 1 bullet left. So I dig in. No bullets left. Enemy unit crosses my advance, comes nowhere near me, Now I am out of supply and isolated. Your telling me that by digging in, I cant fight back?! Please help me understand the logic.

3) With hidden units on, why can I not see my own units? I can understand the opponents, but you would think I would know the fighting strength of my own units?

Oops one more. Any good ladders out there? I am a member of the Blitz.org and warfare HQ but their ladders dont seem very active. Thanks

For both scenario's and a ladder try the Run5 webside (run5/wargamer.com). It seems to be down atm though.

Check out the Run5 site again. There are free scenarios for Velikiye Luki, Bastogne, Galipoli, and Kreta scenarios available now. Additionally there are the alternate scenarios for KP (Opn Wanda) and TAO3 (On to Antwerp). All very nicely done.

Simple answer: Don't get cut off. Digging in does uses a combat capability for the turn (good model). Would be nice if it didn't use up your supply capability for the next turn though.

What you're describing is UNKNOWN units... models units that haven't been in combat. You would not have perfect knowledge of how good a unit is until its first contact with the enemy. One of my favorite features in the game.

The Run5 ladder is quite active and there are players of all experience and talent ranges. Most importantly it is a friendly kind of competitive crowd[:D]

There are plenty of people who are willing to demand more custom scenarios yet they are also the same people who arent willing to do anything about it. Rmember that whilst I and others slave away making scenarios for other peoples benefit - for free - mind you, then it means we have less time to play the game ourselves.

Run5 is the one stop shop for all things Korsun Pocket.. all of the free custom scenarios that have been made are available there.. feel free to develop your own and share them with the rest of us. Run5 also have the closest thing to the official ladder.. mind you the one at blitz is great also.. and they are well respected for all of the support they gave to TAO in the early days.

/end of gripe.

To add to what Rob said (I'm a guilty party of someone who hasn't designed a scenario[:'(]),

The game hasn't been out all that long, so its no surprising that there isn't a huge supply of user generated scenarios available.
Any relationship between what I say and reality is purely coincidental.

The number of bullets a unit has is a reflection of its capability for sustained offensive operations and can change from scenario to scenario, depending on the situation. For instance, the Panzer Lehr in TAO has two bullets, but in Battles in Normandy it will have three, reflecting the fact German logistics were in relatively better shape earlier in the year.

In TAO, the ability of the Lehr, or other German units, to charge across the countryside is restricted by the supply situation, which is as it should be. You don't even need an enemy unit in your rear to cut off supply, Allied airplanes in the right place at the right time will do the trick.

Talk to one of the really good TAO players (I'm not one) here or on the Run 5 forums and they'll be able to give you the tactical lowdown.

I'm still a newbie w/ Korsun Pocket but....

In this situation instead of digging in could you situate your unit in favorable terrain w/ 1 bullet left? Then even if the enemy attacks you multiple times in his turn it only uses up your one bullet and the unit is not isolated? That is, it is out of supply but NOT isolated.

Would this be a more favorable move?
