Suggesting a way to balance AI games.

A trick I have used in UV when playing against the AI is switching from "computer controled side x" to "head to head" mode to correct its deployments to something less strategically suicidal. I only do this when it seems to be putting its head in a sack and offering me the draw strings, allowing me to get its forces reorganized and redeployed so it can offer up a good fight for a long campaign. Would it be possible to develope a patch for the KP system which allows players to do this same action? Currently it seems that players are locked into one mode of play at the very begining and cannot help out their AI opponent if it starts to play like a "robot".
