Crash to Desktop

Post by tcollipi »

I have had all three games (WF, EF RS) all crash to the desk top. I checked to ensure that the games were saving to the correct directory. I got the annoying message that a problem was encountered and did I want to notify Microsoft. If I responded to it the program terminated. If I didn't then I could continue to play but I had to move the error window to the corner of the screen.

I have a Windows XP Service pack 2 machine, with an AMT Athlon 64 dual core process (3800+) 2.00 GHz, and 1.0 GB RAM.

(I do have an old copy of WF still loaded - could that be the problem?)

What are you doing when the game crashes?

Nothing special.  In fact it just did it again, minutes ago on WF.  I had saved the battle file I was playing and as I was exiting the program (from the file drop down menu the file crashed again (I go the microsoft error warning).

In this instance I changed the location of the save game file to the root directory of the program itself.

Should be in WF folder. Older TS games won't be an issue. Is it SCN's that are up to date, came with MCS that is?

Could be a graphics issue. The original Talonsoft games were not designed to run with the high end graphic cards of today. I run my copy of CS with DirectDraw, Direct 3D and AGP Textures disabled. Solved lots of lock-ups and crashes.

Start/Run

Type dxdiag, click on display tab and disable DirectX features

Remember to re-enable for more graphic intensive games.

Hope this helps.

Hell, I remember DirectX 6c caused a stir.
