Does Autosave work properly?

I bought the game yesterday. I play with FOW, so no 'undo move' for me. Unfortunately, I fumbled with the interface and made a really stupid move. Checking that the 'Auto Save' option was ticked, and remembering that the game asked me about the savegame name at the beginning of the scenario, I quit the game firm in my belief that I could just load the autosave the game made after my last turn.

To my surprise there is no autosave on the list of saved games. And the savegame about the name of which the game asked me in the beginning was made at turn 1. It seems the game didn't make any more savegames.

Please tell me whether it's my fault [;)] or something about the game's not working right.
