Drop Down Menus

I cannot see any drop down menu. I have the buttons at the bottom of my screen, but the rest of the screen is the map. How do I get the drop down menus to appear?

Press "m".

Jason, I wonder if it's possible for the game ship with the file menu display enabled by default? 

This seems to be a very common question and I wonder if some new players are missing out on functionality by not RTFM [:)]
