The Fate of Fritz Hesterling

Post by KGWiking »

Alas, my noble Hauptman Fritz Hesterling has perished in combat during operations in Poland 12SEP39. The poor Hauptman decided to lead a patrol looking for a path to flank an enemy position with two decimated platoons. Sadly, they found an improved position well hidden in the woods manned by a well armed cavalry troop of Polish Lancers. Hauptman Hesterling was said by a lucky survivor to have been trying to rally his decimate patrol when a full assault was launched by dismounted troopers.

The Hauptman had shown great promise performing "good" progress of five of the six missions and on one occasion his battalion had been singled out for "outstanding" work in an assault on 7SEP39. He is awarded the Iron Cross First Class (posthumously) for his work and had been cited for the Iron Cross Second Class for previous services rendered to the Wehrmacht.

His cousin, Hauptman Mayhover of the Light Panzer Battle Group working in close vicinity believes that the unfortunate ending may have been the fault of his own success. Mayhover - the battalion commander has received six "outstanding" reports for his actions with his armored group. Mayhover has also been praised and at times chided for his own at times daring behavior. If he keeps this up they'll put the Knight's Cross around his decapitated head mentioned a veteran Stabs.

KG Wiking reporting from the front.
