18 Days in May

Post by Tidavis »

Hello Every one. My name is Tim Davis. You will have to pardon my writing here, and misspellings too. I am a three time embolyc stroke survivor. So my writing at times can be a bit strange to say the least.

I will be taking you through a brand new Dynamic Campaign Game that I created. Before, during and after action reports.

The subject of this new DCG. Northwest Europe. The time. May 10 to to May 28, 1940. The Nations involved? Germany vs Belgium. I'll be playing the Belgians. Specifically the Limbourg Bicycle Battalion against what ever the mighty Wehrmacht can throw at me!.

Here's a sneak peek

First off here. Good news and bad news. Have plenty of fortifications and got lucky with a one hex visibility mission. Why is that luck? Not one AT Gun. I smell doom!!! I do have plenty of Arty so hopefully they can take out a few panzers.

Wish me luck!!

Turn 3. First Kill Belongs to the Good Guys! First a Pz II is ko'ed by a MG in the bunker. Then the T-13 Company finishes it off and retakes the victory hex. That will be a magnet for further German Attacks. Both right side 40 vp hexes are taken by German Armored Cars. One is destroyed for the loss of a non core Infantry point.

Unfortunately we have a problem here. they come up from time to time when Human beings are involved in anything.

Looks like all that artillery i have is not capable of firing. So I'll go and replace it in the Belgian OOB with something that is.

That means a restart to the campaign.

We are back. I replaced the arty that had no ammo at all with some that hopefully does.

Restarted the campaign now have a Armored Breakthrough to defend against. No At weapons to speak of. Except for a few Inf Guns but we will see how they do.

Mud. I hate mud. Especially Grafenwöhr mud. Anybody that's ever been there in late September can tell you why.

25 turns to get turned into mincemeat by the Panzers. [:(]

Turn 2 Got some reinforcements. A Infantry Company and and a Artillery Battalion. Inf heads straight up towards the hill line. Two Batteries of Arty head to the left and one heads toward the bunker above the 230 vp hex. A MG Platoon moves out to make room.

Turn 7. I am taking my toll on the Panzers. First time ever I have Seen Gloster Gladiator's on a bombing run. Took out 3 IIIF's and a IVD.

Go Air Force![:D]

So far at turn 17 of 25 its a massacre. I'll be luck to have a quarter of my Battalion left at the end of this mission.

Not a successful mission at all. Three of my Companies are now less than Platoon strength. Over all of 64 strength points to start out I am down to 24. The future is none too bright.[:(]

Whats left of my Battalion. Really not even enough to cover the two hexes they are in. I have exactly 3 T-13 left. With those I'll go search for some remf's and see if I can raise a bit of hell with them.

Oh so close to negative territory. One more full strength Infantry company would of done the trick. Where the hell is the Divisional AT Company when you need them?

It's now May 13. The war started for us 3 days ago. My Battalion is down more than 50%. Would be worse but it absorbed some straggles from a destroyed Chassuers Battalion unlucky enough to hide in the local cellars.

Time to fight. Hopefully the addition of 5 T-13's will help against the Panzers. We have a Pioneer Company along for this ride. Maybe their packs full of boom boom will help make some Panzers go boom boom.

No where near the fun of smashing Panzers with Char B's or S-35's but the sweet sight of victory. Thanks to a lot of wooded terrain that is! Those Pioneers I had counted one played very little in my success here.

My half Company of T-13 did all the dirty work. I chose the right spot for them it turns out.

Standards must be low in the Belgian Army. Last mission was good enough to get a medal!

This mission is another Armor Breakthrough. Completely abandoning any defense of the right flank. Just dont have enough strength for it. Half my force starts as reinforcements so who knows when they will come on board? No AT weapons again. Not even my vaunted T-13's. Looks like Arty has got to pull double duty.

Lots of burnt out Panzers. The 75's gave a good account of themselves. Still after the smoke cleared the Germans held the field by 110 points. My T-13's never did make it on the board. They might have helped a bit.

Didn't get anything off the board that mission, I didn't expect to. Forgot to take a screenshot of all those burning Panzers. Most were knocked out by some very brave infantrymen when the Panzers came cruising into town.[:-] Don't they know that's not wise?[:D]

Instead of looking at those burning tanks a pic of the medal my guys picked up for this one. It's not a Croix D'Guerre but it will do.

Another Armor Breakthrough. Maybe one or two of my remaining T-13 can make it off. I'm not feeling very positive about this one. Going to try for the 165 vp hex on the right. We will see.
