TAO

Post by laska2k8 »

it was a SSG tradition, to convert "The Ardennes Offensive" scenario through all Decisive Battle series, from Korsun to BiN.

There's a chance to play it with the new engine ?

thanks

The answer is perhaps. I'm working on converting the Battles in Italy scenarios at the moment, but I'd like to get to TAO sometime.

Husky (Sicily) is done and will be released as a freebie with Across the Dnepr. I'm working on Shingle (Anzio) now but can't really say when it will be finished. Its a big job.

Looking forward to Anzio. That was one I had great hopes for with DBWWII but didn't really materialise. I think one of the problems is the time scale for the full battle, it was months that the allies sat in the 'prison camp'.

Yes, the allies were stuck at Anzio for a long time, much longer than they ever intended, but the real battle ends when the Germans realise that they cannot remain on the offensive against the bridgehead and the Allies conclude that they just don't have the resources to actually bust out.

Gregor, one reason I have not jumped at this, as I bought every title u guys release, is that non of the Battles in Italies MANY titles of user scenarios are translated into this game engine, I find that an issue.
I wouls likw to c tAO A reworking of some of the larger BII scens and others... or really not interested, not trying to b critical at all, u guys are awesome, just letting u know why I have not purchased this ...
hope Ians improved, please send him my best wishes/ prayers for life and health

I don't agree with Freeboy, I've bought all SSG titles too, and still enjoy of BiN BiI and Battlefront playing.
But during a battle I find myself searching for tools only available in Kharkov. But I haven't started to play (seriously) Kharkov because I prefer the West/Mediterranean battlegrounds but I "adore" the Kharkov engine.

Maybe instead of reworked scenarios it could be useful to release a scenario converter. In this case only legal scenario owners could "translate" the old ones to the new engine. But I can't judge if this solution is a harder work to do.

my 2 cents

If a scenario converter was feasible we would have done one and made it available to everybody. There are just too many differences to make it feasible to create a converter. However, I am getting a lot of practice at doing it by hand so any scenario creators want to convert their own scenarios then I'll be happy to help.

Rightly or wrongly (meaning from a gaming point of view it maybe shouldn't matter who the protagonists are), these are my feelings too.
I bought Kharkov some three months ago particularly because of the promise of the standardization of the engine and with it the promise of reworked scenarios from mainly (I think) BII, which I also have.
I was disappointed with BF (got that one too) for mainly one reason . AFAIK, unlike BII, not one post release AI capable scenario was ever submitted (so it was never really supported by any one for AI players).
I feared the same for Kharkov before the promise. I still do, somewhat.
I would love to see ANZIO done or redone.
