Europa 1947 v5.5 entering playtest

Post by Silvanski »

Eric DK and me will start playtesting a revised version (v5.5) of my Europa 1947 mod of Piero's brainchild...

I do not need opponents as we're in the closing stages of pbem'ing Tane's "American Front 1940" It took us like 4-5 months I guess, but we had a blast!

Do not ask me for a copy of E47 yet, I will release it when we're sure no bugs are left and balance is more or less assured... I may however post some notes in the AAR section

v5.0 to 5.5
-Adapted for use with 3.4
-On-map graphics indicating resource locations
-Reduced value supply points for Axis
-Replaced winter supply loss with 75% shock
-Added the heavy Allied T28 and Tortoise tanks, extra Allied units
-All units now start as untried
-Minor tweaks to proficiency, supply etc

I hope all events trigger correctly and no major bugs surface... It may get an interesting contest. Eric has become quite a good TOAW player over the past few months, and his flexible defensive doctrine is a tough match to beat, as showed in our AF 1940 contest...  He'll take the Axis side in E47

Silvanski,

Looking forward to seeing the latest version. This has been one of my favourites for a long time now.

All the best for the New Year,

Steve

-All units now start as untried

!!

Unless it was changed and I didn't notice it, this is very dangerous. It will lead to multiple units hitting 100% proficiency, which can have nasty results.

Well it's your scenario.

For me, untried status is only for units the capabilities of which should be totally unpredictable even for the controlling player. If you give, say, regular German infantry 75% proficiency and untried status, they are equally likely to turn into sub-50% proficiency buffoons or a never-breaks-off-combat 100%.

well I go fromt the hypothetisis that after a few years of "peace" every unit and branche has become unpredictable.. The basic starting avlues are of course higher for ie Waffen SS and US marines due to training, but battlehardiness should have worn off... Let's scheck a few figures first, and I still may change it... Thanks for the comments of course.. I'll never dismiss the opinion of a veteran like yourself

For what its worth, originally in D21 the Soviet Tank Corps were set to 60% prof. and Untried. We noticed that most of those units were at or over 90% prof. fairly early in the scenario, so we went back thru the save files and found that those units were getting the +25 to their prof. rather than the -25, or anything in between.

Actually, I think we used to have all the Soviet units set to Untried, but have since set them all to Veteran in order to prevent the upward swings. I think my last line of thought was to set some of the units to 20% prof. and Untried at start, but have not done this yet.

Oops... back to the editor... Better to change onmap and early reinforcements to veteran... later reinforcements will be untried

v5.6 sees all unit statusses reset to veteran , with some minor alterations in proficiency rating.... entering playtest... slight change of plan as Eric wants to take the offensive

quickie update on playtesting... my opponent advanced into Turkey but German and Italian reinforcements stopped them... pushed the allies back, defeated a large part of the Iraqi army near Mosul, captured Kirkuk and Italian and Turkish units are racing towards Baghdad...

The general situation on the east front... the Red Army didnt push hard but I was forced to pull back and give up Baku in order to defend the rest of the oilfields

More worrying is the situation in France... I abandonded Spain so I could defend France better... An allied landing on the French Medi coast linked up with forces pushing north east of the Pyrenees

Still need to make some changes... I wonder what may work best to give supply to invasion beaches for the Allies... Offshore supply points or reduced value onshore supply points... and also have to decide which locations will get them... Suggestions are welcome...
