Mini AAR

Post by junk2drive »

Just to give you something to read, I put together a bit of an AAR for a battle that I playtested. Sorry no pictures.

Mini AAR
German vs Soviet MP via Dropbox
Fall 44

I have about a company of troops consisting of 2 platoons, a flamethrower team, a tank hunter team and a MG42.
For AFVs I have 2 Jagdpanzer IV. Later I will get a short platoon of PZIVJ, a Panther G and a Brummbar.

I am facing a Soviet tank force of T34/76 43s and BA-64s as recon, T34/85s and ISU-122s with Tankodesantniki in support.

The terrain is fairly flat with groves of trees. A small village is the objective and is located on my third of the map.

Several dirt roads crisscross the map and funnel into the village.

I set up my troops in woods, my support units in houses, and my JPZs behind houses with LOS to the roads as they break through the tree line.

Setup is done and we start the battle. Rick is my opponent.

Orders 1: One of my JPZ retreats from threat, backed up and took out two T34s on my right.

End of 4: I have lost one JPZ, damaged two more T34s of Ricks.

End of 8: Second JPZ bites the dust. Now what?

Orders 9: I get 3 PZIVs. By end of 10, two are gone.

Orders 10: I get a Panther. I don't move it, just target the closest T34. I lives 20 seconds. A T34 comes down the road with turret about 30 degrees to the right. To the left my Flamethrower waits in a house. A few seconds before the end of phase, the FT makes a hit, engine damage.

Reaction 10: I watch as the engine damage causes the turret to turn slower, and it swings toward the house. Before it can get off a shot, the FT lets loose.
Just like Hollywood the tank exploded as the flame shot out of the house.

Orders 11: I received a Brummbar and didn't know it. (I received the message but missed it by not paying attention.) In seconds it is fired at and retreats. Late in Reaction 11 it is gone. I have one PZIV left. Orders 11 and Reaction 11 it takes out 2 ISUs. My Tank Hunter takes out a T34.

Orders 12: My tank hunter has a Panzerschreck. By the end of 12, he has taken out another T34. I lose my last PZIV. I have received Off board artillery, 105mm. I plot in the middle of the oncomming hoard.

Orders 13: My tank hunter routs under heavy small arms fire and jumps out of the house into the line of fire.

Reaction 13: He recovers and I mount him back into the house and target a T34 passing by perpendicular at 110m.
Under heavy fire he shoots and gets a hit. The tank hatch slams shut and the tank seems to stop. Message box tells me low ammo HEAT. Still under heavy fire he gets a second shot and knocks out the tank. Message box tells me out of ammo HEAT. He didn't have another chance.

I think I might get a draw. The needles are 77 to 81 at turn 14.

Turns 14 and 15 are less eventful. I have lost my last PZIV. No armour, no AT ammo, Flamethrower killed by friendly 105 artillery while retreating in panic.
I have one squad in a house, the MG42 holding off the hoard of Russkies, an unarmed tank hunter.
Rick has 2 BAs, some troops, a few T34s. I can't stop him. He takes the last of the flags ending the game.
A couple of turns more and the rules would have given me a draw.

Finally ended, 49 to Rick 51. One contested flag.

This is a tricky one. Had my JPZs taken out more or Rick killed them sooner, it could have turned out way different. My Panther and Brummbar dying quick didn't help me at all. Had Rick moved slower or I had taken out the lead tanks, mine may have lived longer. So again, if the German heavys live, the Russians could get slaughtered.

1 JagdPanzer 3 kills
1 PZIVJ 3 kills
1 Tank Hunter 3 kills awarded tank destruction badge
1 FlameThrower 1 kill

I hadn't planned on doing an AAR so I didn't take shots as I went.

Why don't you release the game?

This is getting very very old . . .

At this point, I'll just take the free update instead of paying for it . . .

Yeah, I hear ya. Thanks for the effort, but there is no need for more AARs. Not that it makes any difference as I'm getting this the second it's out, but I noticed forum traffic is down. Also, the screen shot of the day is more like screen shot of the month... I just want this to be released now!!! Patch later if need be.

We hear you as well. That's why we are spending almost all of our time to fix the last issue and get the update in your hands.

I think you guys have seen it all. Time now to play it. That's what we're concentrating on. Not producing AAR's or screen shots but getting the update out to you so you can play it as well.

We still have ONE, yes only ONE, issue left and that should be fixed with the next change to the code. We've been working on demo's for awhile so those can be released as well.

All of that is well and good but we won't be there until you can play it as well.

Good Hunting.

We can understand your frustration. Unfortunately we cannot release it knowing it is not finished. It is already hard enough to compete for attention with other games without having a bad release.

I played this battle all the way through without a hiccup.

MR played it against his opponent and had a repeatable problem. The problem needs fixed. It takes time.

J2D,
Nice AAR. Thanks for sharing. A screenshot of the flamethrower blowing the T-34 would have been great. [8D] When we get our hands on this game, I'll have to work on that.

I'm really looking forward for this release.
