And then you can go oright into the 3-D mode to see how it looks and make changes right there in 3-D mode.

There is a lot you can do with the Map Maker.

So it imports the elevation data, as well?

Yes it does. It also has a set of tools for working with elevation data. In fact when you import it, you are asked if you want to smooth it to start with and thats usually a good idea, though you can choose not to.

PC:O comes with DEMs for the areas around the Eastern Front. It is easy to get the DEMs for other parts of the globe. I made a battle for Nomonhan in Manchuria and Folkstone in the UK. Of course I had to fake it with Japan and the UK but you get the idea.

DEM is digital elevation mapping, it is what gives the elevations for making the 3D wireframe under the pretty terrain.
