Go Slow and Live Longer

Post by Mad Russian »

PCO doesn't use a set number of turns to determine the outcome of any particular battle.

As such you aren't on a time table to get things done. There is an option for each scenario to add victory points to a side starting with a particular turn though so the games aren't completely open ended.

You have to balance your aggressiveness with good solid tactics.

The term "Fools Rush In" absolutely applies in PCO.

Take your time. Hurt the enemies ability to fight. Bring overwhelming fire power to bear at a few specific points.

Try to keep your own casualties to a minimum. I know all this sounds basic and simple. It is and in PCO it works.

Enjoy.

Don't assume that the objective flags are the key to victory. Click the flag to see the points value. Don't lose a 60 point tank to take a 25 point flag. Also check the Specs window for point values of your units and the enemy. If the enemy has a 30 point unit sitting near a flag, you will need a lot of infantry to exceed the rules for control.

Also don't assume that your home flags (the ones that are yours when you start) won't be taken if left unguarded. In the scenario I'm playing now ( I forget which one, I'm at work, Mcensk I think) I had all my troops and tanks move out toward their objectives and after a few turns I noticed on the mini-map there was a red flag that used to be blue at my starting point. Now I have to go back and see who's there.
