Very interested in this new game

Piercing Fortress Europa is a new game from veteran game designer Frank Hunter, which covers the campaigns of the Western Allies from July, 1943 through the end of April, 1945 in Sicily and Italy. Each area has its own map and time scale to best represent the campaigns for Sicily and Italy and the player is offered complete freedom, limited only by a historical order of battle and logistics model, to plan his operations and explore all of the many “what ifs” that the Italian theater has to offer.

Very interested in this new game

I really like the WEGO system. I'm seriously considering this game as a result. I'm just waiting for a few more reviews and maybe the first patch to include some sound options and other little improvements.

The games that I really miss, which were also WEGO, are the old "V for Victory" and "World at War" series put out by Atomic Games and Three Sixty back in the late 90's. Those were really great games. I also loved the scale with counters representing mostly battalions. It was perfect because it allowed for balanced scenarios from even relatively one-sided battles.

I just really want somebody to remake those games. I've looked for years, but still haven't found any titles that are as well done (Atomic never did fix all the bugs though). They're either way too simplistic (like Panzer Corps - which is still fun though), way too complicated (like War in the East - it's IGOUGO, the rules are extremely daunting, and the play balance will be a never-ending debate), or just really dated with terrible presentation and an outdated user interface like the Panzer Campaigns series. Also, I want WEGO just like the V for Victory series had way back in the 90's.

The Decisive Campaigns series (East Front and France) here at Matrix comes pretty close. There are a lot of counters, but the editor is something Atomic never had.

Hey, thank you for the tip.

I took a quick glance and am certainly intrigued. Now I'm off for a closer look.

Not to put you off from PFE. The DB series takes a serious commitment to finish. PFE doesn't.
