USMC Tank-Mounted Flamethrowers in 1943

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

USMC Tank-Mounted Flamethrowers in 1943

Post by KG Erwin »

This was attempted, but it was a failure. The point is this -- what might-have-been has no place in the OOBs for SPWaW, except in fantasy scenarios. (OOB availability 1949) . Do players have a problem with that ?

Are you suggesting that all tank-mounted flame throwers should be moved to 1949 in all OOBs?

No, not at all.  The availability we have in the present OOBs is accurate.

Here's my point -- experiments were made earlier, and they didn't work. The availability dates for the OOBs go with actual dates. May-June 1944 for availability of the first American flamethrower tanks in the Pacific Theater.

Cannot be done by any of us,would require program change.
this is reason I created HTH mod,
to be able to add more units and dispense with units rarely used in PBEMs or Long Campaigns.

SPWAW has alot of 'what if' units in it...
[&:]
Some players like them, others don't.....for those who do not like them or believe they should not be used, simply don't buy them or don't allow your opponent to use them in PBEMs.

Gunny, you need to be more specific in your posting: you are focusing on the Marines in the Pacific, and forgetting about the British Valentine flamethrower experiments in 1941-42 which led to the Churchill Oke and Crocodile systems, and the German PzKpfw III (Fl) flamethrower-equipped tanks made during 1943.

Considering that the Marines (and the US in general) had only recently come into battle by 1942, it's not surprising that it took them a few years to develop the system. But other nations had already built these types of tanks.

Yeah, you're right, Flashfyre. I should've said "USMC Tank-Mounted Flamethrowers in 1943". Sorry about that. I'll correct it. [:o]
