"For those who were fans of "Band of Brothers", here is your chance to command Easy Company and the other units that comprised the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment in the storied battles of the 101st Airborne Division. Now YOU can command these men in the legendary battles at Normandy, Nijmegen and the Battle of the Bulge. In addition, you can have your choice of EACH regiment of the 101st as you replay the great battles of the Western Front in 1944-45. Every type of individual armored unit and infantry-type squad is represented, and you issue orders to each unit or group as you choose. You start at the invasion of Normandy in June 1944, and you choose which regiment you will command. Your sucess or failure in your missions will determine how well you do in succeeding missions. Can YOU lead your men to ultimate victory in 1944? Play Screaming Eagles and find out. "
Some of our designers are also very talented at bringing out the feel of some of the scenes we saw in BoB too.
I was actually able to "see" some of the battles while playing some of the scenarios. The guys did a great job of recreating some of the cool moments of BoB.
I LIKE that my life bothers them,
Why should I be the only one bothered by it eh.
Hi, I feel I should warn people. The designers of the battles in this MC are mostly very mean people. (Escapees from Alcatraz and Devils Island) They design their scenanrios with the intent of making people cry when their core force is wiped out time after time. To help balance this out I was brought in. It is well known that I design scenarios for the player to enjoy and gain easy experience. So when you first begin any battle look in the lower right hand corner. If you see any name but Mogami look out, you are in for a whipping. If you see Mogami, relax, pop a beer, and watch your troops gain easy experiance that they can put to fruitless use in the next non Mogami scenario.
In my toughest battle I even allowed a few German units to have bullets.(but no guns) (But I can't give too many hints away) Have fun. But look out for those other 'mean' scenario designers.
I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!
Speaking as the one who did the vast majority of the text editing in this thing, I can only say that every single battle and node has at least one "Got whupped again?" text file associated with it. Some even have two or more.
Congratulations to Wild Bill and the entire MC SE Team. I can think of no finer example of highly talented individuals coming together to seemlessly produce an outstanding product. Please let me also express my deep thanks to the Warlords. You guys gave so much of your time and produced such outstanding reports! The game is so much the better for your efforts. Thank you and "Currahee"
I only play the Allies so the only mega-campaign that I bought was Watchtower. I am still playing it and have throughly enjoyed it. I definitely will purchase mega campaign-screaming eagles. The Screaming Eagles is probably my favorite division of WW2. Combat Leader, which promises to be a great game. But I plan to continue playing SPWAW. Thank you to everyone who worked on SPWAW, all its scenarios and its mega-campaigns.
Its time that you know. The fourth Mega Campaign will very shortly be available for purchase. Look for the promotion page on the Matrix site for games. The theme of this Mega-Campaign is "Screaming Eagles." Yes, at last the Mega Campaign goes to Western Europe in 1944-45.
Congratulations to Bill Wilder, the MCSE development team, and Matrix staff. I can't think of any finer example of creative individuals working together to develop a surperb MC campaign. Please express my deep appreciation to all those that contributed. You guys gave a lot of your very valuable personal time into these campaigns and we know that they are very time consuming. SPWAW is so much the better for your efforts. Thank you on behalf of all SPWAW diehards.
Wow. Thanks BruceAZ! I take that as an extremely high compliment coming from a skilled designer such as yourself. I think my head just swelled summore.
The enthusiasm I feel as I read these posts seem to mirror that of most of the guys who worked with me in its production.
There is something exciting about just mentioning the Screaming Eagles. They are associated with the dash and daring that we so love in our gaming experience.
I believe that was brought out well in the scenarios. I've looked at every one in detail, played many of them all the way through.
I even designed a few of them, something like 70 or so. The other designers did their share, believe me. That way you get a variety of approaches to the different conflicts in the history of the 101st.
The battles were researched very carefully and we all sought to represent them as best we could within the limits imposed by a wargame.
The maps are consistent. If you fight twice in the same area, the map is the same. You'll get to know the terrain quite well. Places like "Dead Man's Corner," Veghel, Noville and other sites are well done. Our thanks to Orzel Ken Baily and David Boutwell for their efforts.
Brent Richards contributed a semi-developed map of Tempelhof Airport, which I proceeded to finish and then pulverize. Maps of Holland begun by Jess Housley I used to modify and use for the Market Garden work.
Most of the battles are 10-15 turns in length. It is a campaign that WON'T bog you down or bore you. In fact the last thing you will be is bored.
And if you need a break between battles, each node or episode will give you from five to ten articles, many with some interesting pictures to boot.
There is a wealth of information in the Mega Campaign to enhance your knowledge of the Eagles, paratroopers in geneeral and the Western European Theater of Operations.
During the course of preparing this MC, I was able to write and receive mail from Don Malarkey. Those of you who read Band of Brothers or saw the series should recognize the name. He is still living in Salem, Or.
He gave some insight as a first person witness and participant in some of the fights we have recreated. In fact, he wrote a brief dedicatory statement for the game. In turn we dedicated it to him and all of the Screaming Eagles he so ably represented.
Here is what he said in his dedication:
"Dear Wild Bill,
Serving with the 101st Airborne in Western Europe was the most gratifying experience in my life. If a person has to serve in the military, either in peace or war, he would be fortunate if it was with a unit that could look to the past and to future glories of the Screaming Eagles of the 101st Airborne Division."
In turn we prepared this dedicatory statement in the game:
"The designers of this project would like to take this opportunity to dedicate this work to all those who fought, suffered, and served with honor during that terrible moment in history we know as the Second World War. For so many it was the ultimate sacrifice and we are proud to acknowledge the debt ours, and future generations owe to them.
As this title deals with the deeds and actions of those remarkable individuals known as "Screaming Eagles" we would also like to thank the many soldiers who served with the 101st Airborne Division from D-Day to VE-Day. There are so few of you left now, but your deeds will not be forgotten.
We would also like to make a special dedication to Mr. Don Malarkey, and his fellow troopers, whose participation in the fighting from Normandy to the Eagle's Nest was well represented in the popular movie, "Band of Brothers."
I feel more of a connection with the men that this MC represent perhaps more than any other I have done.
And thanks to Jimpy for the kind words about Watchtower.
More coming on the MC....
