US Airborne Campaign

Post by fedinf »

Anyone ever try one of these?

I just downloaded 7.0 [after a 2-day internet connection ] and had played several US AB campaigns on my old v3.x

These campaigns were very interesting for me. A player has much flexibility; for an assault mission for example, you know you could drop all your paras near the objectives - making the enemy come to you, or even drop some guys behind lines while assaulting from the front to catch the foe in between.

In case you are wondering, I shall list what I purchased for my core force, and then break down how I rearranged the units so that they would fit in the minimum # of transport aircraft.

My battalion comprised 3 complete AB companies and 24 C-47s. With left-over purchase points, I also got a couple snipers.

Here is how I reorganized my force (only using one company for the example + Bn HQ):

*Note; all rifle squads are the type equipped with the Garand & Bazooka

A0) AB Rifle Squad (RS)
A1) Sniper
A2) Sniper
A3) Sniper changed into a C-47, I think

Company HQ
B0) AB RS
B1) .50 HMG (reassigned from HMG section)
B2) .50 HMG (same)
B3) Bazooka Team (reassigned from AT section)
B4) Bazooka Team (same)
B5) C-47

*Converted .50s into recon patrols or SAS Teams (for variety purposes; .50s just too slow to move)

1st Platoon
C0) AB RS
C1) AB RS
C2) AB RS
C3) AB RS (changed from 60mm mortar)
C4) .30 MMG
C5) .30 MMG
C6) C-47
C7) C-47

2nd Platoon
D0) AB RS
D1) AB RS
D2) AB RS
D3) AB RS (changed from 60mm mortar)
D4) .30 MMG
D5) .30 MMG
D6) C-47
D7) C-47

3rd Platoon
E0) AB RS
E1) AB RS
E2) AB RS
E3) AB RS (changed from 60mm mortar)
E4) .30 MMG
E5) .30 MMG
E6) C-47
E7) C-47

Recon Platoon
F0) AB RS (armed with Thompsons & Bazooka)
F1) Recon Partol (armed with Garands)
F2) Recon Partol (same)
F3) Bazooka Team
F4) Bazooka Team (reassigned from AT section)
F5) C-47

As you can see, 8 planes can carry an entire company. I renamed all my cargo aircraft to which Pltn & Co. it carried so I wouldn't pull my hair out trying to remember what units I put in which plane

Good! I can't imagine the ma-deuce being anything but a b***h to hump! Vehicle mount that thing, or not at all.

fedinf,

I have an American campaign going in which I have two platoons of six squads each of Airborne Infantry and 6 C-47's in my corp group. While not accurate to have an airborne company(-) attached to an armor unit it adds a little flair to the game and I enjoy it. I have considered an all airborne infantry campaign but I would think it to be a little hairy since the computer buys so many tanks. Maybe I'm wrong but doesn't your infantry get swamped by tanks in your battles? I'd be interested to hear.

By the way where abouts in PA are you? I'm originally from near Harrisburg.
