Just ordered SPWAW Generals ed.... A bit worried

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Just ordered SPWAW Generals ed.... A bit worried

Post by joabru »

While it's downloading I'm reading about it on these forums... And getting a bit worried[:(]

Are there problems with the Mega Campaigns and the generals edition?

Will they play correctly, as they are in a package I'd expect them to run perfectly.. Especially after paying £50 for them.

Please tell me I've just not wasted my money...

The mega campaigns play fine, I think some people experience a bug if you play with "command and control" on....which I dont think the Megas were designed for use with that function in mind anyway.

Hello Joa,

Welcome to a grand game.  The General's edition plays quite well, and the mega-campaigns will give you plenty of fun.

Please note that there are downloadable scenarios available as well.  Some are for a modification called the enhanced DV (definitive version) or the DVRN (Real name - a version that names units using the language of the unit's country if it can.)  Scenarios and campaigns that work in either variety of DV do not work in the regular General's edition and vice versa.

Happy gaming,

Cheers guys,

Played Steel panthers way back[:)] and its like getting back into a comfy chair! That and TOAW have to be the most played games I've ever owned. In fact another old favourite is here, War in Russia.

Would love to see some remakes of the the old CCS wargames Vulcan and Desert Rats by RT Smith[&o] They got me into the genre.

Hmm I have always hoped many years getting Continuation campaign into SPWAW[:'(]. From 1941 to 1944 (maybe Lapland War too?).

Let me guess: it should have machine gun company on it and someone called Rokka [:D]
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

joabru, I just wanted an update: How do you like the Generals edition so far? SPWAW with Generals editon and TOAW are the games that I have played more than any others. Just let us know what you think.

Believe me, Joa, you did not waste your money. You have in SPWAW, the Mega Campaigns and the 200 plus battles from early in WW2 through the Korean conflict as well as some IndoChina battles, the best investment you could make for a buck, especially if you enjoy low level tactical combat where the loss of part of a squad, and MG Team or a single tank can affect the outcome of your fight.

Good hunting!

By the way, did you know in the Mega-Campaign Screaming Eagles you actually have four campaigns in one? Each of the four regiments of the 101st are lined up separately and you can play each one through without repeating a battle.

And so much more!
