Having a look at spwaw

Post by wild_Willie2 »

Hi there.

I just got myself the 7.1 version of SPWaW ( Got a bit bored with war in the pacific after 3 years [;)]), and was wondering IF it would be possible to upgrade to the MATRIX patches for the game ? (8.1 and higher).

Btw. are the mod's out there witch improve the graphics of the game?.

The answer is YES to all of your questions.

Version 8.40 is now the standard version of SPWAW.

A different version with improved graphics and sound is called Enhanced DVRN.

Both versions are easily available.

You cannot upgrade from 7.1 per say....you need to download the full game version 8.2, then upgrade from there.
and then make sure you install the Enhanced version (s)
to find out more about Enhanced , click the link below.

I started that tutorial without reading the manuall, and found out that I REALLY NEED TO READ THE MANUALL in order to fully understand this game.....

You should try war in the pacific for the first time..... [:D][:D][:D]

Welcome aboard, man. I've been playing this game for a few months now, and I think I'm pretty safe in saying you'll enjoy it.

And definitely read the manual. [:D]

Hello Wild Willie,

SPWAW is a great game.  Welcome.

Although the forum is not as rich as the forum for WITP, you can still find good advice and help.  I know that you learned by doing in WITP.  You can do the same in SPWAW.  Try some small scenarios or battles just to learn how to work with the various arms. Post a note if you are puzzled.

For some, where you are attacking, I recommend increasing turn limit with scenario editor. Also SPWAW Depot has some good tutorial scenarios too (Enhanced DV required).

Welcome WIld Willy,

Keep playing. Look for smaller easy to play scenarios. Get a feel for firing and moving. From that point begin practicing simple small unit tactics and you'll be a pro at this in no time.

Some scenarios are easier than others. Some are really for the more experienced player.
Don't be discouraged if you don't get a decisive all the time, or even most of the time. Learn by your mistakes. You'll get better and better. I've been playing this since the very first version, Steel Panthers, came out in 1994.

Good hunting. At your orders always.

By the way, get version 8.4 and give it a try. If you want to try the enhanced version, make yourself another copy of the game on your hard drive and use it with the enhanced version. See which you enjoy more and go from there.

What the... I thought it came not earlier than 1995! Unless you were betatester at the time and thus got it to your hands bit early...

Note: Enhanced DV might require you to download new DV compatible scenarios and campaigns. It seems there aren't any scenarios along with DV itself [:(]

That is correct. In the manual you'll find my name for all versions and additions for all SSI Steel Panther games, SP1, SP2, SP3, SP1 Module, SP2 Module, SP3 etc. and then on to the the first SP2WW2, then SPWW2 (first version), then SPWAW.

Hi,

Will "enhanced" work with the MegaCampaigns?  Also, does C&C work with the "enhanced"?  (The last couple matrix patches broke C&C with the megacamps.)

Thanks,

P.

Enhanced itself will work with C&C on...in fact, it probably works better with C&C than the regular game version. And it will work with the Megas, but there will probably be a lot of icon and weapon errors, so I wouldn't recommend using it with the MCs.

so since wild bill has been sniffing around here again I've got a question for him, Did u design the LLRV campaign to use C&C off? I'm currently on turn 7 of the fifth battle so far,, and have the AI difficulty set to 200/same as flashfyre long campaign preferences/,and getting my ARSE handed too me!with nothing but DRAWS.
Part of the problem is that most of the reinforcements arrive with the preset objective hex 222,222 so nothing wants to move and the change unit objective button is inactive.

Thanks, FlashfyreSP - that's great to know. I think I'll give "enhanced" a try if only for the scenarios.

I was devoted to the megacamps for years - finally got distracted enough to go on to other games when I was traveling and a patch broke C&C on my laptop. I tried to go back recently but the old, low-res graphics turned me off. (To long away, I guess.)

Best,

P.
