I'm just getting back to Steel Panthers WaW after a long absence and just downloaded v7.1.

I was wondering what everyone felt about this version---advantages, disadvantages or problems?

I looked for a list of changes but only found one for v7.0.

I know this was probably a much discussed topic. I tried a search but the search engine kept telling me I had too few words or didn't find the type of info I was looking for.

Thanks

Ask and you shall receive. The best yet. Here are some of the major things that got fixed in 7.1

A) The Splash Damage Effects.
B) Added Different Armor types.
C) Fixed the Mega Campaign crash.
D) Fixed Waiting for Snyc Bug.
E) Improved OOB's.
F) Adjusted the Prefs for Infantry Toughness against Hard and Soft targets.
G) Adjust the Combat routines dealing with APCR.
H) Adjusted the Tank shirts so they can become damaged and will reduce there protection effects.
I) Command Control will now work in the Mega Campaigns on any OS. (Once again thanks to Arralen for helping us finally nail this one down.
J) Halved the support points in the long campaign

Much better grenades - they're actually effective now.
Fewer immobilizations going through buildings and over walls.
PBEM file transfer issues seem to be resolved.

All in all I think 7.1 is very good, still some OOB foul ups, but there always is...OOBS are very hard to perfect, I know from experience!!
there are 2 OOB fixes for 7.1 over at the OOB forum.
One for US enigneers, the other for Bulgaria.
Both are what you would call "official" fixes.

Japs actually retreat.
Retreat is NOT an option.

They don't acutally retreat, they just move back to a given point to regroup so they can come back meaner than ever. LOL:D :D :D

I'm curious about these since I didn't know about them even though I've been fairly well into the 7.1 fixes. Could you emphasize please? In which 'direction' have the changes been made?

This is not a fix itself - it is just an effect of the Splash Damage Fix. But you're right, they should be like they are now - ideal for real close range fighting, especially urban combat.

Svennemir, why did you have to go and do that, I was having such a peaceful day. Honestly though I wasn't involved in the adjustments made to the code, you'll have ask Paul V. if he knows, I was just passing along the changes to 7.1 that were made public when it was released. Sorry:(

Ok Svennemir here is what was changed. Directly from Paul V as well as his memory serves him.

Adjusted the Prefs for Infantry Toughness against Hard and Soft targets.

Made 125 = 100 Inf toughness and 75= 100 Arty vs Soft

Adjust the Combat routines dealing with APCR.

I made a few tweaks on the effective penetration equation to make it match the equation in Lorrin bird's book more closely. I frankly don't remember what exactly they were.
