Blood Bath in Holland!
Operation Market Garden, September 17, 1944. The attempt to capture the bridges in Holland, based on A Bridge Too Far, by M4 Jess, and redesigned for 4 players by M4Jess.
You've seen the trash talk. If not, see the thread 'need 3 PBEM vets' in the Opponents Wanted subforum. The thread also contains the description and history of the battle.
>The Allied participants are:
*Fallschirmjager-will command the Airborne.
*Goblin-will command XXX Corp
>The German participants are:
*Orzel Bialy-will command the SS, FJ's, Spec Ops, and elite German armored units
*hellcat-will command the regular Werhmacht forces, and an armored contingent
This is a very large battle (60 Turns!), and we will try to make this as entertaining for you, as it is for us! Fallschirmjager will make the opening move....
Goblin- A Goblin is armed for battle:mad:

Turn 1!!!!!!!!
Ok most of you know the story of market garden so Ill dispense with that.
Im playing the AB or course. So im going to manage my AAR by division.
The 101st:
Has several small bridges they need to secure. The most important being the bridge in the small village at Grave. I begin to move my units and run into light German resistence. But being the AB light resistence is all they need. I lose several men to various machine guns, squads and infantry guns but manage to supress a good number of them. This will nbe the first area XXX corps attempts to link up with so I will try to have it open for them when that arrive. And that means moving faster than this
82nd:
The group is very spread out. They also have to take several bridges but...Nijemegan is one of the most important of this campaign. I run into very light resistence here meeting only a few squads, but I also meet a log bunker
I have no idea how im gona take that out without losing 50 men. I also know that alot more infantry lurks in the city of Nijemegan itself.
British 1st:
This is the most desperate of the group. XXX corps will have to mox some 200 hexes to reach these men. I can only hope to hold on with the small force I have and hope some are alive by the time goblin comes to save me. This is where most of the action of this turn happens. I take a few VH's but the bridge will be incredibly hard to take because it is overlooked by several bunkers across the shore and I have nothing over there to take them out with. I also make a few mistakes here. I run vickers jeeps and bren carriers wildly thorugh the streets and get them shoot up. I learn my lesson but Ive lost too many good vehicles for it to matter.
Come soon gob....I need you.

It has begun...
Excellent! This will be very interesting to follow! Good luck to all!
A small note from the nit-pick dept: It's "Nijmegen". Just wanted to set that straight for the rest of the DAR.

XXX Corp on the move!!!
Engines rev and strain, propelling armored vehicle towards the German defenses and the old bridge. The sharp Crack! of a 50mm ATG causes the lead scout car commander to slam his hatch, and sound the alarm on the radio.
The ATG is engaged, but a second gun on the opposite side of the road enters the fray! Several scout cars and Sherman's engage the enemy guns, plus the defending infantry along the trench line north of the bridge.
A Cromwell CS tank rumbles up, and 95mm rounds are lobbed into the sandbagged positions of the ATG's. The blast from the massive HE warheads manages to diperse surrounding infantry units. The fight is nearly over, and XXX Corp will resume its relief efforts soon.
The burning wrecks of an AEC MkII and a Staghound I testify to the German resolve to prevent that from happening....
I lost the Staghound to a mine on the little wooden bridge at the start of the German lines. The AEC took one from the German ATG's. I think the Germans are about to break, and I believe they are Wehrmacht, thus hellcat's men.
Goblin- A Goblin sounds the charge....

from the kubelwagen....
Paratroopers, British Armor! Mein gott!
Our small gateway force is already being overwhelmed by British armor in the far South. The chatter of Machinegun fire can be heard throughout the countryside and from the small towns...
Orders have been given to all units to move to designated strongpoints. We are lucky the SS is resting in the area! It must be the bridges they have come for! Well they will not have them!
We have shot up some jeeps at arnhem and nijmegan and there are even airborne in Groosbeck!
vroom! off to the front...

Standing Order to All Allied Troops.
Any German soldier found within 200m of a mine field is not to be given quarter. They are to be shot. Any German soldier caught damaging Allied equipment will either pay for it immediately, or be shot. Any German soldier that resists being shot shall be shot, then shot again. That is all.
Goblin- A Goblin is strict but fair:p
