OOB Unit Class question

Post by omegaall »

In the current OOBs there appear to be several classs that are could be inter related. These being :

#76 - Team
#84 - Pack Animal

Is there a real differece in these 2 classes eg cross country movement etc?

To me #76 - Team seems closer to the unit class
#83 - Gun Team or used as some form of "horse tractor"

According to game manual:

Q. What are gun teams and pack mules used for?
A. Gun teams haul guns. So do pack mules. More realistic than tons of trucks
and half-tracks, at least for the Axis side and the minors...and Russia.

RE class #76 "team" would be interesting to know..indeed! checked a couple of OOB´s but can´t find it used anywhere![X(]

Stuart have an idea?[&:]

In the standard OOB files for SPWAW 8.3 theer are 4 units which are class 76, "Team".

These being:
OOB 72 Italy - Unit #196 - Slitte/Sledge
OOB 76 France - Unit #222 - Pack Mules
OOB 91 Free France - Unit #221 - Pack Camels
OOB 91 Free France - Unit #222 - Pack Mules

So here is a case of pack animals being "Teams" [&:]

It is an alternative animal class

A rose, by any other name would smell as sweet.
They struggled with a ferocity that was to be expected of brave men fighting with forlorn hope against an enemy who had the advantage of position......knowing that courage was the one thing that would save them.

I think Flashfyre used the Team class for horses, which can carry infrantry, then "dismount" them, in his USA oob mod.

Ok lest put this all into some perspective.

Ther are many various calsses described, by various sources " as a version" of some other class.
The questuion I posted here is just a simple example of this, what seems to be implied " alternate" option".

What I would really like is some MG definative OOB designer to outline what if any are the operational differences between these "optional but the same" classes.

Is a command tank really the same as a main battle tank ??

Are second line infantry really different to normal infantry ???

Again this is not from our/the usesrs perspective BUT from the Game mechanics. A totally different thing!

Hello...

All same to the program. Second line infantry or elite infantry, main battle tank or command tank. Added these distinctions and radio codes to editor to allow third party orders of battle authors to more easily create the units they chose. The movement and combat routines see no distinction.

Hope this Helps...
