Still trying to get a PBEM game started if anyone's interested

Post by PimpYourAFV »

I used 8.4 and the multimod (the #2 version issued while ago). I hear about 8.403 but don't see any download for it so only 8.4 for me.

I want to play japan vs usmc in a jungle fight, UK or Poland vs Germany in early war, or Russia vs anyone in early war. I care about having fun more than winning so if you need an ego boost you can probably win pretty easy. I use a combined force of many unit types for variety and hope opponent will do the same. Also I turnup the arty to 140/140 to help make it a little effective but all other options are default and on (except C&C is off).

I'd like to try Nat. China vs Japan too but I think I'm alone with my dreams of ever playing a PBEM game. [:(] [>:]

Not many people are going to go for arty at 140/140. The consensus, if there is one, is that it is over-powered already. IMHO the problem is more to do with the suppresssion routines, but I digress ...

I'd play you but I only have SPH2H.

TokyoBoy:

Getting 8.403 update can be tricky, if I can successfully upload a step by step picture, it will be right here in this post.

Oops, file is too large. I'm trying to email you.

Well, my settings can be changed if opponents want to. For arty I can use the default but would never turn it below 100 which is removing arty from the game, though I probably wouldn't use arty unless at least 130 cause it would be a waste of purchase points and micromanagement. I reckon real arty would be more around 150-200 range if realistic but cannot be used as efficiently as we do in the game. The suppression effect is definitely too much but that is not affected by the strength rating in the options.

Also I don't really want to use the latest patch cause it apparently makes arty even weaker. Even on soft/hard 140, 60mm mortars have never ever caused a single casualty when I tried them. Its estimated that 75% of casualties in WW2 were caused by artillery, many of that by mortars. I noticed this trend in other PC games I tried briefly with everyone demanding weak artillery which doesn't cause damage. [&:]

I am still open to playing a game with anyone if possible, especially with Japan vs USMC in the jungle.

I'm willing to play a PBEM game. :) Though I'm not sure if we can; I've got SP:WaW (the free one) and it's latest patch from the MatrixGames website, but I've never heard of the multimod. If you point me in the right direction though, I'm willing to give it a shot!

I prefer small battles myself, both because it's more tactical and, frankly, I'm not that good. If I get 2000+ points, I end up confused and make horrible mistakes when buying, and worse when deploying.

I'll play any country, but I prefer those with good elite infantry units. Arty at 140 is fine by me, even though I prefer less. And.. just a heads up, since I'm still in school and all, I may not always be able to play like 5+ turns every day. :P

JVega, thanks for your offer. What version is your game? Mine is 8.4

I can turn the arty down a bit if you prefer. For points, I tried 1700 which leaves you 1500 after the HQ is deducted which is good for a small map and nice tactical game.

8.4 as well, an 1700 sounds great, especially on a smaller map. :)

If you prefer arty at 140 we can do that, too. Eitherway is fine.

What sides should be played?

JVega, what version is your game?

I prefer Japan vs a nation of your choice. I also would enjoy to play Poland, France or England vs Germany in early war. For map, I'm sifting through the custom maps trying to find something worth using. Most of the custom maps are way too huge to be used.

Is there a place to download some small and medium size custom maps?

SP: WaW is 8.4 (Free edition), without any mods. That's it, at least as far as I know. Last update patch I downloaded was "SteelPanthersWorldAtWarUpdate-v840". :)

I don't know of any places to download maps, but I'll try looking for some. Goggle and on SPWAW.com

Poland vs Germany sounds great, too. :) Me as Germany?

That sounds great JVega. [:)] We have the same game version and I will play as Poland against your German forces. I will search for a nice map today and get a game setup this evening.

Please tell me what email address you would like the game sent to. You can PM your email to avoid the automatic spam search engines if you like.

How about your advance vs my delay?

Problems with the game meant that we couldn't. :( It was a shame, too. I was looking forward to getting my butt kicked by the Polish defenders!

JVega (and pbhawkins if you are around), I will install a 2nd version of the game for exclusive handling of PBEMS when I can arrange the hard drive space. 'Ole Betsy' my computer reminds me of a clunky, early war Italian tank and must be handled with care so that it doesn't break down in a pothole.

JVega, I for sure want to test my WW1 vintage Polish cavalry and troops against the German juggernaut. I just need some time. [:)]
