Allright, after much fighting and a major fire raging in the woods, my Cossacks prevailed and forced the Brits back. Final points ~12000:6000 for a soviet marginal victory. :)

Gary Tatro has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - PBEM World Cup 2003 - in the SP:WaW Opponents Wanted forum of Matrix Games Forums.

Here is the message that has just been posted:
***************
Here are the pairings

Willy vs Scharfschutze only one game. Winner goes to the finals

Dodger vs Sandman and JJ
Sandman vs Dodger and JJ
JJ vs Dodger and Sandman

These three will play two games at once against each opponent. One game for each country. Points will be 8,000 on a large map. Have fun. The winner is the player who has the best record out of the two where DV=3 points MV=2 points and Draws =1 point, if two poeple have the same number of Victory points the scores of the games will decide the tie breaker. Have fun and congradulations.

Gary is tied up from what I understand.

Looks like we have our finalists.

JJ do you concur?

How can you argue with a Buzzard[8|]

I looks as if it will be Dodger in the finals unless things drasticly change in my game with Sandman[:(]

After this WC is over, it looks like I have 2 rematches to do. One against JJ, as I promised.

But the other goes to Buzzard if he's keen. He's the only opponent who was ahead when the game ended [&o]

Finals are Scharfschutze and Dodger

Congradulations to both of you for making it this far. I commend you skills, sneakyness, ability to out guess your opponent, and luck.

Look forward to reading through an AAR, and the completion of the tournement.

What am I doing latly, why I am busy counting beans. :(

Me and Sandmans game is over

Score Me 9642
Him 5543

For some reason the game stated it was a draw, anyway good game sandman, I should have bought reinforcements. In both my final game I decided to do without reinfocements. I got two Draws one with me 1000pts down ( Dodger ) and the other with me 4000pts up. Maybe I should have called for some. I've been doing some thinking ( all ways a difficult task for me.) How about next time play where reinforcements are actually replacement vice another strike force or additional off board arty. I would like to sugest unless it was something killed or put out of action then you cant call for it. Your thoughts please

I'll play the final with Scharshus...however it's spelled.. then I'm open for rematches. Will be nice to play again for no stakes. Allows me to take more chances. Not that i'm not reckless sometimes, but still.

It's over

Post by dodger »

The final game between myself (Fin) and Scharfschütze (Rus) in Feb '40 has ended
in my victory. Points were 10062 vs 2749, though the difference in points does not
do justice to Scharfschützes effort.

Thank you to all my opponents, and I mean it. There were no easy battles, there were just some battles that were not as hard as others. It's been a long road to this point. I started this World Cup '03 thinking that I should make it out of the first round of cuts. Winning, especially by using Finns in the final, was just a farfetched dream of those moments of weakness when a man let's his imagination run ahead of his abilities.

Atleast now one issue can be laid to rest, the myth of ski troops being crappy. They are mobile, agile and mean. And when used aggressively can create local superiority of force where the enemy least expects it. And once they break through, the enemy has little hope of outrunning and regrouping. And as an added bonus, any Finnish ski trooper can be motivated to feats of heroism by promising a free loot of any alcohol found on dead enemies once the battle is over [;)]
