All right who wants...me?

Post by STIM »

Hey all, I like playing V2 and all, but I want to expand to other players.

So far I've only played 3 PBEM games (One of them still in action!) and they have all been vs V2. so far Myself 0 wins and right now this third game could go either way. (I think I am winning though! :) )

I have 7.1 AND the NEW H2H

I dont know how the H2H works but whatever, I have it.
C&C off, everything else on.
Air sections a maybe.
10% arty.
4-6k points. Oppenents choice. I do not care.

Who wants some????

I'd be interested in playing a H2H pbem game with you, STIM(currently playing my first game with it, and it seems pretty good so far). If you accept, just throw whatever you want together and send it to me at radboy223@yahoo.com.

Would love too but we need to decide nations. ;)

So far I've played Germany, and Russia.

Since I always like to try new things, and depending on what theater you want to play.

If Europe, Then myself as Allies: US/UK/Russia or Axis: Germany (I dont wish to play as Italy.)

Or Pasifc. Allies: USMC/UK Axis: Japan

Your choice. Please reply.

Care to take the British 8th against the Afrika Corps?

Anything else is acceptable.

I prefer C&C on, but I'm not insistant. Peg artilery at about 10%, and let me know if you want to do force mix limits. I think a few air units are fine.

The Italians....

Post by challenge »

don't stand much of a chance against the Brits -- that's why the lost North Afica and needed the Afrika Corps to bail them out. Once they start running, they just keep going. :(

I'll take either side. I just wanted to let you know that Itallians won't do well. You might try using them as the support like you suggested using the Germans.

How many points, and do you have any other limits you prefer?

yep. you are right.

there equipment is too bad.
( played a test game against AI )

AI seems to be better in H2H it even
choses quite good tanks as crusaderIII + grant en masse...

the italians have some good AC, but....

i would say max. 4k points..large map ?

air ? max. 1 section each because of the
air bug.

arty. 10 or 15% ?

mines no pre-laid.

infiltrators - 1 platoon ?

comand off....all other on.

good vis + weather if possible
because in sandstorm you can move only very slow...no fun at all IMHO.

Works for me. I have to reload the game when I get home this evening so if you want to set it up experiment with the battle gen until you get the settings you want.

I have reloaded and am ready. Do you want me to set up a map? I have a little practice playing with the scenario map editor. I'll work on one and send it over for you to look at if you like.

I live in Texas. My brain is permanently fried from the heat.

I started with a random map (desert) and adding features to make it look like a real desert. It has a road and a town on the northern half (with trees even! The map generator did that). In the south was a big empty flat spot which, other than being boring to look at, was a shooting gallery.

I added a row of steep hills to the the south and am in the process of putting in terrain features to make them rough, rocky and, otherwise difficult, wind-cut cliffs. North of that is a flat stretch of dunes, sand depressions and small rock fields. Then the section with the town and such begins and, with a few minor additions, I'm leaving that pretty much alone.

What I'm going for is desert-escarpment effect. I've lived on a desert and the featureless, flat stuff is punctuated by abrupt rises when the wind has centuries to erode down to the rock. Then I'll put in the VHs.

I should be finished today and I'll get it to you. Then you can look it over, decide if you want to fight on it and where you want to start from. Then we can set up the start lines and deploy. The start date can be anytime between March '41 and January '42 (the time frame of the North African campaign).

;) :p :D

I haven't played in a while so I, of course, am eager to begin -- I've already figured out what my basic force is going to be. By the way: 4000 is about the max for a map this size and you may still end with a slug-fest. Manuevering takes room.

yeahh. but a ppl. in texas are used to heat. we in germany are not. but whole europe seems to have probs with the dryness. much fires and so on. even in finland, sweden and so it is hot.

btw: if you are doing so much work with the map you should consider using it for self-build scen.

hope the map is not to small ?

Standard large map (80X100), as suggested. I'm actually finished except for putting in the VHs and the start lines. If you give me an email addy, I'll send it directly, or I can post the zip here. Editing a map is fairly easy since you have the random genned starting point.

If it works out well, I may just build a scenario from it. I like using designed maps (a lot from the contest are really good) as compared to random ones. Customs tend to have better and more realistic terrain and the objective hexes are intellegently placed, IMHO.

As far as the heat goes... My youngest neice is used to it -- she was the first one born here since my mother. The rest of us just try to live with it.

I need to set the reinforcement and retreat hexes be fore we start. If you're P-1, they need to go on the left, Player 2 they go on the right.

Thanks for the compliment. It's built from years of living and hiking in the New Mexico desert -- so no, not really. It is a representation of a town at the end of a caravan route into the Sahara I saw in a film once. It's a fairly common configuration. I got inspiration from the first scenario in the Stalingrad Campaign packed with 7.1.

The escarpments were a major hinderance to the Brit 8th and the Afrika Corps, and the few passes through became strategic locations. Whether there was ever an actual fight in one -- I don't know. I've read bits about small units fighting over water holes and such, and figured, since I like terrain, and the area to the south was empty and flat I wanted to do something about that. :D

I forgot to set the retreat and reinforcement hexes. It's set for Axis on the left and Allied on the right -- but I think I mentioned that.

BTW: Do you have ICQ? My idnumber is 127730719

Or we can go over to the DAR threads and keep a running dialog on the action for the etertainment of all.

Did you get my note about the map numbering/folder thing?

Set it up and let me know where you're putting it. I'll post the zip of the map there, as well, for people to look at if they want to follow along.
