1.05 Patch?

Time of Fury spans the whole war in Europe and gives players the opportunity to control all types of units, ground, air and naval. Not only that, each player will be able to pick a single country or selection of countries and fight his way against either the AI or in multiplayer in hotseat or Play by E-Mail. This innovative multiplayer feature will give player the chance to fight bigger scenarios against many opponents, giving the game a strategic angle that has no equal in the market. The game uses Slitherine’s revolutionary PBEM++ server system.

1.05 Patch?

Post by parmenio »

I've just bought this - it was cheap and I still had a 25% off coupon.

The 1.05 patch is no longer available from the link on this site.
Question is.... do I need it?
If so, does anyone have a copy?

The steam version appears to at 1.06 - would I be better off going with that?

Ta.

yes

but plenty of live links if you need it anyway, but steam always has the latest anyway, so if using the steam version no patch is required anyway

Is that yes I need the 1.05 patch or yes I'd be better off using the Steam version? [:)]

either way, but yes steam is easier for you if you don't want to use this patch or site version etc

it's the original files just hosted elsewhere, can ask board to re host if you wish to grab from here if link is down, but tbh plenty of sites are hosting it, this one i've just downloaded and scanned as well so it's the correct and safe one[;)]

Thanks - I have no problem downloading if from there. I didn't think to google it to find if it was available elsewhere.

My question regarding the version was around which one was likely to give me less problems [;)]

Having read through a large number of posts both here and on the Slitherine site (where you also replied to me), I already know I'm going to have to work on this to get it run reasonable smoothly - the tutorial on 1.04 has already crashed twice.

just been informed as well the last patch is 1.06

http://ftp.us.matrixgames.com/pub/TimeO ... e-v106.zip

so all the above isn't needed as you only need the last patch as all our are inclusive

Thanks - I wasn't aware there was 1.06 anywhere but Steam. I had already patched to 1.05 but downloading now.
I've only had one crash with the Steam version but that was me playing around with Windowed mode and switching apps just to see if it worked. It didn't but older DirectX games often didn't/don't.

I did not know that there is a patch 1.06. It seems whether it is a patch identical to 1.05 but with installer.

It has an installer and it does report itself as "1.06" on the UI.

You may already have all this info, as you stated you have read multiple threads on it, but here's what I know:

For a thorough review of the differences between the 1.05 patch and the Steam 1.06, and the few gotchas with both, see previous threads in this forum. You may have to make sure that you have selected the option to see threads from previous years, or all threads.

First thing: ToF is THE best WW2 Europe PC game, by far. Don't be offput by some issues with it. I've played it solo and PBEM many times. See my AARs.

Rasputitsa has been most informative on the issues involved.

In the Steam version you have one major bug: upkeep (cost of maintaining your armies) gets out of whack for the major countries. You will have to use the F12 cheat every turn, to reset your and AI PPs to the proper level, otherwise you will quickly go negative in PPs). I've played the Steam version, and don't find this bug a backbreaker.

The 1.05 version, non-Steam, has a bug whereby terrain effects are not applied for combat, for most countries. This bug is rather easily correctable by a simple mod. Again, the details for how to do that are in threads here in the forum.

As for the 1.06 patch that Zakblood gave, I also wasn't aware. I'll have to see it is indeed different from 1.05.

As for the startup crashes, I found that the game is trying to load too many country specific ini files. If one removes non-essential country files, the crashes pretty much go away. See my thread about the subject.

Thanks for the info. I'd carefully looked at all the issues but decided to buy the game anyway as I liked the premise and thought I could work round most of the problems.

I'd assumed the upkeep bug was also present in 1.05. Is that not the case?

Has the same problems as the STEAM v1.06.
