Scenario questions.

Unity of Command lets you replay the epic conflict that was the Stalingrad Campaign of World War II. In this turn-based game of strategy and cunning, observe how opportunity leads the German army to advance recklessly into the steppes of southern Russia. And as the story unfolds, join the Soviet campaign to repel the invaders... As these legendary battles play out on the hex board, the tension of decision making and difficulties of conducting operations on a massive scale emerge. Command armies and fronts in maneuver warfare, thrust and encircle, capture cities and cross continents; but never, ever forget to watch your supply lines. The Red Turn expansion ads a gigantic Soviet expansion centered on the Kursk campaign.

Scenario questions.

Post by stormbringer3 »

On the Unity of Command homepage image #7 shows a scenario menu. They are labled Axis or Soviet and easy or medium. My questions are can the scenarios be played from both sides, and are there any hard scenarios? Also can the difficulty be adjusted?
Thanks.

Scenarios can be played from both sides, but only in multiplayer. Side named in scenario is side that is on attacker side (and player is always attacking in single player).

Difficulty can not be adjusted. That only represents scenario difficulty in general. As is, start with easy scenarios first if you won't play campaign :)

There are several hard scenarios and scenarios can be played from both sides in a way (hotseat/multiplayer), but not in the campaign and not with the AI controlling the side that acts first as far as I know. So you can't play "Axis" scenarios as the Soviets against the AI as the Axis, unless I'm missing something. The scenario difficulty itself can't be adjusted because it depends solely on the scenario.

There are 5 Hard scenarios, in addition to the 9 Medium and 4 Easy, with a Tutorial and Introductory Scenario.  There are also two Campaigns, one from each side.
There isn't a way to adjust the difficulty.

Thanks everyone.
Instead of starting a new thread I'll ask this here. I feel that a new title needs as much publicity as possible so I'm curious as to why this title gets no mention that I can find on the Slitherine site?

Questions about scenarios. There is only one that is labeled "PvP". This means all the others cans be played by two players but they are unbalanced??? Please explain.

Thanks![8D]

In the scenario labeled PVP, both players have objectives to take, so both have to think offensively and defensively. The other scenarios, when played two players, one replaces the AI and only has to defend against the other. The defending player just has to run out the clock.

And the "Easy", "Hard" labels designate the challenge for the offensive player?

Thanks

Correct. It represents the difficulty level for a human offensive player against the AI.

We tested this extensively, and while these ratings are not unanimously shared between different testers, there was a reasonable measure of agreement on this.

Other than trying to cut off your supplies, which the AI will almost always do, it reacts to what you do. The AI is always on the defensive.

And there are two campaigns, Axis & Soviet

@tombo: In general no. AI plays same actions for same situations. There are very few randomness inside AI which are not crucial.
Quite important to mention is, because system complexity, for slightly different situation AI actions can be quite different. Also because of randomness in combat, different combat result can diverge AI actions.

@freeboy: Campaigns are played only against AI. It is discussed in this thread.
