Well done!!! Now that is the way to go, we just need to have a switch, so everybody can install what he likes. Perhaps I'm wishing for too much but would be nice to have the larger ships in different state of their upgrades as well, as stated above.

Very nice again!!!

Thanks B, but I could never keep up with you, JWE, TOMLABEL or Cathartes in either quality or quantity. I just do a few things here and there as I need them or feel inspired to do them. The rest of my time I'm at work pulling my hair out. [:D]

In a (sort of) continuation of the camo vs grey discussion, what colour are the Australia class ships going to be? From mid 42 Australia, Shropshire (and Hobart) were painted in 'Chicago' blue, Canberra may also have worn this scheme.

1) Plain grey
2) Two tone scheme: 1941-post Coral Sea
3) Chicago blue

**EDIT: I was afraid the blue would be too much. Here's an edited version of the blue Australia for anyone who's interested

Hello...

1) Prefer. Shows most detail.

2) For larger ships, ok. For smaller ships, detail lost.

3) All detail lost all the time. Will not use set, if done this way.

My thoughts...

In this game we all try to be as accurate as posibble with technical data, orders of battle, names.....and why not with paint schemes?

Is someone coordinating something? and what happens with planes?(is the only thing i can help)

Hello...

Am speaking as player in this thread, not programmer or game designer.

Size of art. Were the bitmaps three or four hundred feet long, any paint scheme would look nice. But, with tiny bitmaps, player might like to see turrets, deckhouses and other details (so he will know what ships looks like). Silhouette forms do not tell much about ship and look 2D.

Hope some one coordinating. Maybe fellow who started thread, Don Bowen. No idea about planes.

Bye...

I guess I am indeed coordinating this thread - considerably hampered by the fact that I have no talent.

Work is progressing on both a standardized GRAY ship set and an aircraft set with better scaling. First for stock, then for CHS, then on....

There is some shifting of scale for smaller ships to preserve detail but it is uniform so ships will look proper next to each other. A PT will be a little larger in relation but will still be smaller than a SC, etc.

And don't worry, the guys doing this work have talent - lots of it!

Camo and other "hard to see" paint schemes have not been included - yet. There are a number of artists who prefer camo and I suspect that an alternate set will be available soon after the gray one. Matrix was very wise to externalize the artwork so everyone can have what they want.

Me, I want gray, scaled, and easy on poor old eyes that have spent too many decades looking into computer terminals.

Hello,

A great deal of info and desires have passed by, but I thought I would clarify what form the project is taking. Yes, the ships are gray; different hues, and with weathering & rust, but basically gray. Ships were painted in many differnt color schemes over their careers, so who is to say which one is "historically accurate".

Many artists will be represented, however all of the images will have generally consistent saturation, hue, and brightness values; this means I have darkened mine somewhat, lightened BigB's somewhat, alpha blended some bluish to mine, you get the picture.

The idea is to make a self consistent set.

The package will have every ship on a similar background (4 to 5 variants to avoid being boring), numbered correctly, shils, and in their appropriate folders; simple subfolder replacement. The package will also include a complete set of blank pallettes like the one below. If you want cammo, get Paint.net (its free) and do a simple alpha blend (an extensive internet tutorial comes with). You want Chicago blue, well then, overlay Chicago blue. That is the whole point in providing the blanks as tools.

Where can we get these Dixie ;-)! I hope you will do the rest as well ;-) and not only RN ships. If you like I can send you my basic stuff for my Saratoga, so you can mod it to size.

JWE,

ships did not change camo that often, not to mention bot larger allied navies mostly used 3-4 patterns (as well as the japs who used 3-4 grey tone paintings), so the solution is to make a yearly set, like the a/c set by Cathartes, and then change it whenever it is required.

Cheers
