Have to wait til after work to "see" the battle. All I have is the Combat Report at present. Unfortunately PT-39's original companion, PT-122, acted as a minesweeper (once) so the trade-off was more or less equal.

I'll wager PT-39 sailed between them and they fell to friendly fire!

In the replay neither side launched any torpedos.  The Japanese hardly fired at all.  There was no surprise by either side.  The range was 1000 yds.

Disagree. Against Japanese DDs in surface TF the score is rougly even in sunk ships points... to sink about a dozen PT you will lose 1-2 DD and have 1-3 more damaged.

I have never managed to achieve routinely anything like parity of points against Corsairs.

But I agree 100% that PT boats are way much overestimated... especially their ability to sink DD with Browning machine guns...

By the way, Japan should have tens of PT boats, and hundred of suicide canots.
