Favorite plane?

Post by Captain Cruft »

What's your favorite plane from each nation? I mean looks and stuff, not which is best.

For me it's ...

Brits: Mosquito - I have always loved this aircraft, especially the fact that it's made of wood. Recon version has awesome range.
US: Black Widow - An absolutely evil looking beast. Feels to me like an early precursor of the SR-71 Blackbird even though it's function is different. Again, awesome range.
Japan: Rufe - I just like the idea of a fighter that can land on and take off from the sea, even though it's crap.
Aussies: I have a lot of affection for the Wirraway and Boomerang, which can be very effective if used correctly.
Dutch: Difficult one but I suppose the ungainly floatplane torpedo bombers whose designation I can't remember.
Soviet/Chinese: Not sure. All the modern fighters just look like Hurricanes to me.

US - P-61 FOR SURE - It's my all time favorite - If I had all the money I could stand - I'd spend whatever I needed to build one - ever from scratch...

Japan - I guess the Nell - I just like the slender look and think the tail is awsome... ( sorta like some girls I dated .... ahhh memories ) [;)]

Brits - Either the Wellington with it's geometric fuselage or the Mosquito...

Did the Dutch have any aircraft?? [:D][:D]

The Aussies - Whatever the US gave them to use!!

Ive found that the Wirraway quite useful in an anti shipping role actually.

For the Russians, the MiG-3 and Yak-1 are beauties.

I'm greatly looking forward to flying one in Pacific Fighters, assuming Oleg adds it of course.[:D]

I've always favored the P-47. I love the tipically American Design Thesis. What's
the biggest, baddest, most powerful engine available? OK, let's stuff it into a single-
seat fighter design... "Seven-plus tons?"..., so what! Once we get a big enough
prop on it to use all that horse power it'll be just fine. There is something so ugly
it's downright beautiful about a P-47D

P51 Mustang. What a sleek beast. It's almost sad the arrival of reactors doomed it.

The P-38.

Everything else is just another airplane.

The P47N- faster, more heavily armed and armored, longer ranged and just as manueverable as any P51, Corsair, or late war P38. End of Story.
And maybe some of the extra long range Yak 9DDs, and some postwar Lavochkins for fun

P-38, of course.

First, best nickname ever. 'Fork-tailed Devil'. Heh.

Second, once I started getting P-38s in some numbers in UV, I knew the worm was turning. From that point on, I could count on beating the Japanese in the air, and finally dish out some of the pain I'd been receiving.

Another vote for the P-38. Even today, it looks futuristic.
