RE: Alien Invasion: Oh, the Humanity!
I would love it if they held out for 2 months! [:)]
I made a bit of a trade off in Malaya by not moving all of my engineers into Singapore to start on fort expansion right away. I left a bunch of them at Kuala Lumpur to destroy the 600 resources there when it fell. They did a fantastic job, as it's estimated that 598 are still damaged. That's 600 supply points every turn that I'm preventing Mynok from using, AND if he wants to get the production fully back online, it will take 600,000 supply points! [:'(]
My Singapore forts might be approaching 7 now, instead of 6, but I'm happy with the trade. [8D]

RE: Alien Invasion: Oh, the Humanity!
Ground combat at Singapore
Japanese Shock attack
Attacking force 113369 troops, 564 guns, 183 vehicles, Assault Value = 2358
Defending force 63927 troops, 449 guns, 9 vehicles, Assault Value = 822
Japanese max assault: 2364 - adjusted assault: 765
Allied max defense: 868 - adjusted defense: 1470
Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 5)
Japanese ground losses:
4838 casualties reported
Guns lost 84
Vehicles lost 14
Allied ground losses:
3768 casualties reported
Guns lost 61
My guys did pretty well, but I could have hoped for more Alien losses.
Hmm -- not as good a performance as at Manila. I guess Singapore doesn't get the Urban combat bonus?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

I believe you are correct that Singapore does not get the Urban terrain bonus in CHS.

I-124 has moved in to replace it’s sunken sister, I-154, 120 miles NE of Batavia. This has been a good hunting spot for Mynok’s SS’s. I-124 announced her presence by hitting DD Vampire, part of an ASW group, with a torpedo. The other 3 DD’s of the group were unable to hit I-124. Later in the day, however, the second ASW group in the hex found her. The MSW/SC attacks hit her with 6 DC’s and set her on fire.

I-160 caught a small AK, hauling resources from Balikpapan and put a torpedo and 2 shells into her, 120 miles SW of Balikpapan. The AK, Sipirok, has 1 4 inch gun and 1 303 MG, and she managed 1 hit on I-160 from one of them. [:D] She should make it back to port at Balikpapan. I have an ASW TF stationed at Balikpapan that will move to hunt I-160. In the afternoon, the MSW/SC group hit I-124 3 more times NE of Batavia. I-124 joined I-154 on the sea bottom in that hex.

My 4E’s did not fly against Kuching today, despite the good weather. I don’t know why. Their fatigue is now all less than 10 and their morale ranges from 39 to 62. Mouse intel reports 68 airfield damage at Kuching, so I should still be ok if they fly tomorrow.

An Oscar sweep visited Singapore today, as the Sallys and Lilys lick their wounds from yesterday. My fighters are slowly getting worn out at Singapore. I only got 14 in the air on CAP to face the 34 attacking Oscars. 1 Oscar for 8 Human fighters destroyed is not the kind of result I want to see. Singapore is holding up pretty well, with their forts at 5 + 84%, 59.7k supplies, and the AV up to 712. The longer I can keep fighter cover here, the longer I think I can hold out. I believe I will bring the 2nd and 3rd squadrons of the AVG down from Rangoon to play for a while. I am not going to commit the 1st squadron, since they are the only unit exempt from the Zero Bonus, and there have been no Zeros included in the attacks at Singapore so far. I have 4 squadrons of Hurricanes currently being shipped from Aden to India that can bolster the air defenses if need be for a while.

This brings up a question. I have no bases connected to Singapore that I still control. I am not bringing in any supplies by ship or by air. How is it possible that the supply stores at the base increased by 200 points last turn, when I know some planes flew attack missions from the base, and engineers worked on fort construction? I can’t come with any reason. I am not complaining, just curious. [;)]

Back to the war, 1 ground attack flew from the Singapore airfields against the Guards (2nd) Division outside the gates of the city. 1 Hudson lost, and minimal casualties reported. Some Nells and Lilys from Khota Bharu came after the 3 PG’s I have stationed at Singapore. They have been missed many times before, but today 2 of them ate torpedoes and sank.

My PT’s at Sandakan did not catch the AP’s. They caught CA’s Maya and Ashigara, as well as 2 CL’s and 8 DD’s. 2 rounds of fighting and all 4 PT’s went down without scratching the paint on any Alien ships. Aliens splashed ashore at Sandakan.

Another CV attack by Petes and Kates preceded a Deliberate attack at Manado. My small number of Dutch defenders were easily defeated and retreated along the trail toward the interior of Celebes. I have a couple of S boats stalking the CV TF, hoping to get lucky like their Dutch comrades who sunk Taiyo.

More Alien bombardments at Nanchang and Manila today. My Chinese stack of 5 corps is 30 miles or less along the road from Nanchang. One of the 6 corps arrived at Nanchang today.

I am 4 or 5 days away from reassigning a RCT, a combat EGR unit, and 2 AA units from Panama and shipping them to PagoPago. I also have several LCU’s preparing to ship out of San Francisco. These include a couple of base forces, 2 Aviation regiments (1 for Brisbane and 1 for Darwin), and the 111 RCT, which will head to Palmyra. By the end of January, I will have a Tank Bn, the 102 RCT, and the Americal Division available at Panama. I’m trying to decide where I want them. Right now, it’s a toss up between Palmyra and Christmas Island to play it conservative, or the extreme opposite, which would be to try to get them all to Port Moresby. I currently have all of the Australia Command units gathered there, as well as the troops that started at Rabaul and Lae. Their combined AV is 302, the airfield is up to size 4, and I’m currently building only forts up from level 3 + 28%. There is 61k supply and 5k fuel there, with more of both on the way. I also have the 14 New Zealand Bde on the way from Auckland with it’s 120 AV. Mynok has not started his move on Rabaul yet, but there are a lot of ships in port at Truk.

Any suggestions? [:)]

Hi Mike,
It seems that Mynok is not really interested in PM. It also seems that he will be satisfied with taking Rabaul and the surrounding islands to set up a defensive perimiter, but I can be wrong [:D]
I am quite astonished with your ASW performance! Keep it up Mike.
btw. It seems that we have a bug in our game. You have Hurries and I have lysanders.. although scheduled to arrived as Hurricanes, they appear as these worthless recon planes.[:(][&:]

Yava, would you like to trade 4 squadrons of Hurricanes for the 18th UK Division that the "Variable Replacements" bug ate in my game? [;)][:D]

Yava, thanks for the kind words about ASW. I think Mynok may not be paying as close attention to his subs as he could be. It seems I can spot a sub, and it remains in the same hex for several days. This is something that Bhodi's Utility is great for! It will flag each hex where you have had ships or subs spotted by enemy aircraft in the previous turn. I check it every turn for this and move them if they get spotted. [8D]

It looks like one of us needs to get in touch with Milo to arrange for M&M Enterprises to transport planes and troops from one war to another. They should be able to handle it. [:D]

I can live with the fishermen reason. [:D]
I've actually noticed the supply level bump up slightly like this several times since Singapore has been cut off. There are Alien troops in the base hex, so the very small resource produced supply should not be generated, and there is no oil there to run the HI. Has anyone else seen this before?

What i have noticed happening is that supplies from units that are being destroyed or being removed (i.e. - flown out) get returned to the general city pool... however, as things grow slimmer and belts are tightened, this starts to become more and more infrequent.
The reverse occurs when things are more flush: supply a city, and the supplies get sent to the starving units, and the (say) 2000 tons of supplies you just shipped in can vanish p.d.q.

Interesting idea. Maybe the air attacks are destroying a few squads, even at the same time my AV is increasing. I am sure the AV increase is due to some disabled squads recovering, as well as experience levels slowly increasing. Maybe preparation increasing, too. Thanks, Bob.

No sub action today. I did spot a sub 3 hexes NE of PagoPago and I have 4 AVD’s stationed there now in an ASW TF, so I’m going hunting tomorrow.

94 4E’s sortied from Soerabaja against the airfield at Kuching, scoring 120 runway hits! The BDA reported 4 Zeros, 2 Babs, and 3 Sonias destroyed on the ground, but the later intel screen showed these actual numbers to be 8 Zero, 6 Sonia, and 4 Babs aircraft destroyed. I didn’t catch any Nells or Bettys there. Mouse reports change a little bit every time a game is started up. The mouse reported 67 Airfield damage at Kuching earlier today, but now reports 64. No matter, it’s up there, and going to climb more tomorrow.

The massive raid prevented expansion of the forts today, and still left 37 Air Service and 46 Runway damage to be repaired. I have the 3rd AVG squadron transferred into Singapore today, and will have the 2nd AVG squadron on station tomorrow. I have a squadron of RAF Buffalos at Rangoon that may also find their way here. My guys at Singapore can hold out for a good while if I can keep effective fighter cover overhead.

Aussie Hudsons from Amboina made several unsuccessful attacks on shipping as it left Menado.

Aliens landed at Taytay in the PI today, and held the daily bombardment attacks at Nanchang and Manila. Mynok also added Sandakan on the east coast of Borneo to his collection.

It looks as if Tarakan will be the next to see an Alien landing. Once it’s captured, I’ll have to abandon shipping activities at Balikpapan.

The first convoy of AK’s that I sent out from Oz and NZ has reached San Francisco. I have also started another large convoy of AP’s from Oz to San Fran. These will give me plenty of shipping on the West Coast to move out all of the LCU’s and airgroups available in the next 30-45 days. With all of the oil I’m pulling out of the DEI arriving at Sydney, my Oz fuel situation and supply situation is not bad. Not yet ready to launch a large offensive but quite good for defensive support and stocking up Port Moresby. I’ve decided that the Americal Div and tank bn that will be arriving are destined for Port Moresby. Once one of the big AV Rgts arrives at Brisbane, I’ll move several of the BF’s there up to PM for AV support and increased Engineering capacity.
No sub action today. I did spot a sub 3 hexes NE of PagoPago and I have 4 AVD’s stationed there now in an ASW TF, so I’m going hunting tomorrow.

RE: Alien Invasion: Oh, the Humanity!
Seems that Mynok is willing to take care of Singapore... at least weaken it from the air for the time being....
Nice job at Kuching, Commander... keep the AF down! [:)]
