Somewere during this game I have "lost" one turn...
It will be safe to assume that what happened that day was something along;
heavy AC loss for the allies, some allied ships lost, one or more minor bases captured by the Japanese.
May 1st 1942
Only one message of importance enters CiCPac HQ this day. It is big news however!

We have learned all there is to learn about this plane. It is really not as good as believed. Go get them lads!

Be advised that one convoy is loading up supplies at Brisbane this very moment and will soon be heading your way. Another convoy is enroute to Port Moresby were it will pick up some ground troops and head fro Darwin to help you bolster your defence. Try to hold for a week, and you should have enough troops and supplies to allow you to repell the attackers.

Today three enemy battleships arrived to bombard our positions along with several light and heavy cruisers.
From: Base commander, Pearl Harbour
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy bomb runs
Today close to 100 enemy bombers attacked our positions, this might be because they realise our supply situation and are using us for target practice, or they might contemplate attacking our position as soon as Lahaina falls.
From: Base commander, Noumea
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy shipping
The Kido Butai has taken up position to the NE within striking distance of the port, shipping in supplies and reinforcements will be hard. Also another enemy task force has been spotted, it is expected that this is a bombardment force on its way to test our defences.

Update so far
So, I lost the war [:D] (the game goes on, but Japan will achieve auto-victory). But what have I learned after 150+ turns, and what is going to happen as the game progresses.
Lessons learned
1. Do not expect your opponent to do what "all others" do.
2. Try to act, not REact.
3. If an action is successful 2 days in a row, it might go terribly bad on day 3, so keep changing style of play.
4. Never never never send in TFs piecemeal
5. There are more Japanese troops out there than I believed.
6. Always check if you just loaded a brigade or a division, do not assume!
7. Nowere is safe unless you take steps to make it so.
8. Sometimes you need to accept a loss and take your mind of it.
9. Sir Robin tactics might work, but do not overdo it.
10. No matter how strong you feel your position is as the allies, in 41 and 42 the Japanese player can bring in enough troops/ships/planes to take it.
11. Do not leave the most important bases underdefended.
12. Although you seem to have alot of aerial units as the allies, do not expect them to perform on par with the Japanese pilots, espesially vs ships.
13. Although it makes sense to stand your ground on certain bases, make sure you also control the sealanes around it, so that you do not get isolated.
14. Nells and Bettys will chew up any uncovered task force easily.
15. I need to learn how to better defend China.
16. Although US CVs "respawn", loosing too many means your opponent gets to run around causing havoc for a longer time.
17. Although the Hurricane "won" the Battle of Britain, they do NOT do well against Zero's
18. As an allied player, timing is important
19. As an allied player time is your friend (you have it, Japan does not).
20. There is no such thing as a safe-zone (unless stipulated in houserules)!
21. Just because the combat report claims that a 1000lb bomb penetrates a flight deck and causes an internal explosion, does not mean that the target carrier is severly damaged.
What will happen now?
1. There will be a battle at Noumea. The big question is how long the KB and bombardment TF will linger in the area. As soon as they are gone I will move in more troops, but I cannot send in any now as they will be blown to pieces.
2. I might expand the hexdot between Australia and Noumea to allow fighters to rebase there enroute to Noumea.
3. It seems likely that Japan will invade Pearl Harbour. If they do I need to kill of the troops fast, as my troops do not have any supplies. However I doubt my ability to hold the base.
4. All of India will fall (most has allready). I am trying to retreat all surviving British troops into China to help hold here. British bombers are allready operating out of China.
5. China seems to have stabilized, but a mere 5000 men are holding alot of AVs (3-4k) up north, and has for a long time. They are now surrounded and will most likely surrender quite soon. If these addes Japanese troops is enough to take out my defences further south, I do not know.
6. I will launch a small counter-offensive in the Kuriles. This serves no real purpose, but is merely ment to signalise that although Japan has taken alot of ground they need to defend it as well since the KB and all land based bombers cannot be everywhere at once.
7. I will slowly get USS Hornet operational as well, and will bring a British CV to keep her company (currently crawling into Perth to refuel). I will then let them stay in port untill I recieve atleast one more US CV. This will give me a CV TF of 2 US CVs, 1 Brit CV and USS Long Island.
8. Submarines have more or less finished withdrawing isolated troops from NEI and Philliphines, and will head to Brisbane to start acting as real submarines.
9. More fighting will take place in Darwin. Actually at the moment I am really pleased that my opponent is keeping the KB off Noumea. If he had ventured to a position off Darwin I could not have sent in reinforcements (as are underway) and supplies (also under way). However I see how this could have been dangerous to him, as I could have flown in as many fighters and TBs as possible in the hope of catching one or more Jap CVs.
10. Japanese autovictory. If I get to call it, the war will go on, but I have no trouble understanding if Roy2008 wants to end it, as I am no match for him, and it might be simply boring. (On the other side, he do have the chance to becoming the first ??? Jap player to conquer EVERYTHING hehe).

RE: A Norwegian CiC Allied Forces - No Roy2008!
Take all ground units available at the West Coast, Canada and Alaska. Split one small fragment via sub transport to be able to rebuild the units.
Now load all this ground units with plenty air support and as much engineers you can get together with severl hundred thousand supplies. Load a lot of fighter units on AKs.
Move all DBs and TBs off your Carriers and replace them with Fighters.
Now move this huge convoy with several hundred ships and all your surface combat fleet to Japan and invade Hokkaido or Sakkalin.
He won't be able to stop this, he won't have a chance to bring in enough ground forces to prevent you from captureing the Island and with all that engineers, he will never be able to close the airfields as long as there are enough supplies.
Once established, you visit his Industry day by day and night by night with 4e bombers...
If he plays with war attacks on turn one, if he lands on the western side of the Malayan peninsula, you don't need to put yourself under the "This is ahistoric" restriction.
If you perform this correctly, he'll sink a lot of your ships, but he won't be able to stop you, no matter what he does.
All ground units will grow to original size if there's a fragment left behind, all airgroups sunk on ships will come back one year later, all cruisers and carriers will respawn. You'll recieve enough DDs and AKs later in the game to take all losses.
The only thing you'll loose forever is the old BBs, but that doesn't matter too much.
Doing this, you take the initiative and force him to play your game. As you both play regarding the VPs, you'll earn a lot by strategic bombing and captured bases and this will make him mad - if he's unprepared because he really doesn't read this thread...

Thanks for the advice, seems like you have played Roy2008 before?
Main problem with what you suggest are;
-there are no carrierS, only Hornet at 77 damage and a Brit CV paddling from India [:D]
-the ability to load 100-200k of supplies I think is currently behind my capacity due to the loss of some 300 AKs by now
-my West Coast units are at Lahaina.. [:(]
BUt I will keep your advice at mind and try to do so when I can once more get the Hornet out to sea, sounds like fun and something he might not expect.

RE: A Norwegian CiC Allied Forces - No Roy2008!
Then wait for the bad weather season and do it without air cover. If you run in with fast transports, you may capture airfields very fast and base fighters there to protect your fleet.
If the fleet comes in a blizzard he will sink some ships with Bettys and maybe the KB, but most planes won't find their targets or won't even start.
I played him and it wasn't fun. He has a fully prepared plan that is obviously tested several times. By doing the ungentle invasion at Johore Baru, he usually captures Singapoore within a week and runs for India then. You barely have a chance to fight him in a conventional way then, especially as many LCUs haven't arrived yet and the two tank divisions still have just one Grant Tank.
While he massively exploits the game engine, his preplanned actions might be a chance to interfere. But as he has taken out most of your important bases, an Invasion of the home islands seems to be the only chance left. If it is successfull, you may do an even more evil thing: You can try to invade manchuria then to drive the Kwangtun army out of it. This will let the garrison drop below 8000... [;)] - but to keep a realistic eye on it, that's quite unlikely.

RE: A Norwegian CiC Allied Forces - No Roy2008!
Hehe dropping his Garr rating against Russia sounds fun indeed
But I have to say that I still have fun despite the poor results I am getting. I always expected to lose this game, so that does not bother me as well, and now I live on all the small "victories" I can get, like slipping that Brit CV away right under his nose.
What hurt me the most was my loss of both US CVs the first few days of the war, and that was actually due to bad luck, nothing else. I could move anywere, but chose wrong, and the loss of the AVG.
Also what is now a becoming a problem is that I have overinvested in some bases (PM, Lahaina, Akyab of all places [8|]) and lack cover in other places.
No matter how this game plays out, I have learned alot from it, and for that I will always be grateful for.

RE: A Norwegian CiC Allied Forces - No Roy2008!
To Remedy the Situation:
1 )Allied Fleet Units placed in safe anchorage
-- all carriers into a single US West Coast Port protected by all
land based AA units and fighter groups to protect from japanese carrier strikes
2) A severance of all offensive operations until June 1944
-- allied forces are in dire need of rebuilding
land divisions should be re-assembled and fighter units rebuilt to strength, preferably with newer designs when they are made available
no offensives should be launched whatsoever until this date to prevent the attrition of long term strategic assets
In early 1944, preparations can be made for a limited offensive
(the ideal place is to land in the Kurile Islands and Sakhalin)
or somewhere in the central pacific Midway and Wake to isolate and starve the japanese hold on Oahu and Hawaian Islands
In middle 1944 A series of slow, deliberate probing feints can be made against the enemy perimeter provided that the force that is used will be composed of at least 20 aircraft carriers organized in unison totalling at least 1500 aircraft of which at least 60% should be fighters (can use marine squadrons to supplement).
There will be two major obstacles to a long-term counter-offensive. First is the enemy's land based air units capable of striking at your carriers with impunity from counter-attack.
These must be worn down piecemeal over the course of several feints. Second is the enemy carrier fleet which will be equipped with superior pilots, weapon systems, and equal in numbers.
These must be fought separately from the enemy land based air units and engaged in a position of tactical advantage. Lessons must be assimilated from previous battles. These were not bad luck, but the result of incompetent deployment and unclear strategic reasoning.
If the correct lanchester law equations are followed, the USN carrier fleet is usually unstoppable (see my bore in the pacific AAR where the IJN is massacred at my battle of midway for no losses, and IJN Yamato and its squadmates are sunk by a token force of US cruisers, flush deck destroyers, and pt boats. All of this in middle 1942.
Infinite patience are the virtues of the allied commander.
Under your command is the most powerful industrial giant on the planet. Though its military is lacking in this stage, by waiting two years, you will be placed in a position for absolute victory.

RE: A Norwegian CiC Allied Forces - No Roy2008!
Hmm, wait for another year is probably the correct choice.
However by doing so, allowing my opponent to cruise on at will, I will lose China, Noumea and N.Australia for sure.
This is why I am really contemplating an offensive action, to force Japan to REact for once, and not just acting on his own will.
Main defecits in the allied forces as of now is of course the complete lack of an adequate naval force (1 USN CV+1 Brit CV+1 USN CVE+2 new USN BBs) and fighters with longer legs.
But 20 USN carries will not be available at June 44, I would estimate the number closer to 10...
I am really not sure what the right thing to do is, nor do I know if my opponent will continue the game after he reaches autovictory.

CiCPac HQ, CiCPac's private room
The war has lasted 6 months to the day, and noone expected the Japanese to do so much so fast. The CiCPac marches around in his room, sits down, lights up another sigarette, gets back on his feet and continue the aimless walking. His main concern now is the fate of Noumea, another Japanese unit has been spotted enroute to the base, while allied transports are making way towards the base as fast as possible. Another major concern is lack of shipping of all sorts. Although the US wharfs deliver on average 3 liberty ships per day, the need is just too great. Ships are needed in Europe as well as in the Pacific, and of course fighting ships are even further apart. The only ships that the Allies can muster an acceptable number of at the moment are submarines. Unfortunately these ships are now used mainly for rescuing garrisons left behind the enemy lines, as every man is needed to halt the Japanese onslought. It is far better to give up a small atoll far behind the line, and instead let the units there help defend the line against the Japanese.
The CiCPac's letters to the aviation board has so far not been replied to. And with the start of the bombing campaign against Germany, it is only to be expected that the European theathre will recieve long range fighters before the units in the Pacific. It has always been claimed that the Pacific is so big that any enemy would need alot of time to take it all, but time is now an asset the Allies no longer possess...

Yesterdays intel was wrong. The enemy TF is not the Kido Butai, it is a surface TF. It seems to be moving westwards, but keep the transports away for a few more days. We now have no idea as to the whereabouts of the Kido Butai. But if an invasion of Pearl Harbour is expected it might make sense that it is headed in that direction.
