WITP Newbie

Post by krb3 »

I've had this game for quite some time but never really played it to much (no time). I'm getting back into it now and just playing around with the Guadacanal scenario. I've searched the manual but haven't really found an answer to my questions.
1. Refueling at sea...I've tried to put ships in the same hex (tanker and a convoy) but seem to have a problem with that. For example I ordered a carrier task force to a hex where the tamker was and ordered the tanker to stay in it's hex. Carrier returned to home base. Why did that happen?
2. Do ships automatically refuel when the reach port or do you have to tell it to?
3. Repairs of ships....My headquarters is in Nomeau with a 8 port size and tons of supplies. Will the ship be repaired?
4. Endurance...I have a couple of ships that have the endurance in the red (they are in port) and when I tell it to replentish in port nothing changes? How do you get it back in the green?

For general play, does anyone have a check list they go through to make sure they do everything they wanted. Seems like I forget to do something, create a supply convoy, give planes new targets etc.

You have to set the cv tf to "do not retire"

They will unless you have told them not to refuel.

Depends on the amount of damage etc.

4. Endurance...I have a couple of ships that have the endurance in the red (they are in port) and when I tell it to replentish in port nothing changes? How do you get it back in the green?

I need more info. Sounds like you have a destination set that is far away. Make the destination the home port and see if that helps.

What khyberbill said - set your CV TF to "Do not retire"... also, it helps to have them set to follow the TF with the tanker in it... usually you need an AO type tanker to get the refueling to work correctly. Also, make sure the carrier TF is set to reaction radius of 0.
2. Do ships automatically refuel when the reach port or do you have to tell it to?
Per kb...they generally will refuel automatically unless set to DO NOT REFUEL... also, they need sufficient OP points, but even then sometimes you need to manually order them to refuel.
3. Repairs of ships....My headquarters is in Nomeau with a 8 port size and tons of supplies. Will the ship be repaired?

Ships repair VERY slowly at bases without a repair facility.
4. Endurance...I have a couple of ships that have the endurance in the red (they are in port) and when I tell it to replentish in port nothing changes? How do you get it back in the green?
Make sure the home port is set to somewhere nearby, and also that they have sufficient fuel and OP points to permit refueling in the turn.
For general play, does anyone have a check list they go through to make sure they do everything they wanted. Seems like I forget to do something, create a supply convoy, give planes new targets etc.
Probably someone does... but best to make your own.
