looking for allied opponent:

Post by bigbaba »

since bigred isnt answering, i repeat my request for an allied opponent.

setting would be:

1 day turns
historical first turn off
allied damage control on
advanced weather effects on
reinforcements variable +-15days
PDU on
sub doctrine off for both sides
sub auto ops off

my HR would be:

-only one port attack on turn one, no overabuse of the turn one movement bonus (means no landings on turn 7 in Australia or something like that)

-max. aircraft on airfield max. 50*airfield size (+about 10%) eg size 4 = max around 220 planes (around means perhaps 223 but not 238!! )

-max. aircraft in sea hex = "around 450" (= 5 Essex carriers or the equivalent size 9 airfield). Can be adjusted to around 550 also if you like.

-Japanese are not allowed to do strategic bombing in China! Far too easy to destroy all the ressources, HI and OIL. Japanese may bomb everything else of Allied territory.

-Allied are not allowed to do strategic bombing of JAPANESE OCCUPIED ALLIED territory. This should prevent the Allied player to do suicide attacks e.g. with carriers to destroy some oil facilities (which I´ve seen enough) and for the reasons mentioned under above point. Allied may bomb everything in Japan, Korea, eastern China, Thailand = everything Japan held at 1941/12/7. If you want to starve Japan, take the bases or sink the ships!

-B29 aren´t allowed on naval attack

-B29 only on level 6 or 7+ airfields, this should limit them to places that were big enough in real life.

-4Es on nav attack min alt 15.000 ft

-ASW TF max 6 ships

-PT boats max 6 at a base (1x6 PT TF or 2x3 PT TF. Not 6 TFs with single PTs!)

-no sub invasions

-no mini para drops. As many para drops allowed as wished but they should involve at least 500-1000 men at min.

-cutting off units only with "real" combat units, not some 10 assault point base forces

-no use of dozens of small barge, MSW, ... TFs to guard ports (engine can´t handle dozens of small TFs in one hex)

-no exploit of dozens invasion TFs going at one base, means: if you need 300 ships for an invasion, put them into 5, 6 or 7 TFs but not in 60 TFs with 5 ships each.

-a maximum of 2-3 divisions at atols like iwo jima, midway, wake...

I have been having problems finding anyone willing to do Japan vs me - although possibly there will now be some tests.

I need to test RHS scenarios - and we have not had an Allied test for a very long time. Having just done an update mainly to Allied ships I want to see the data in a microscopic player sense of the word.

I regard this work as useful if AE comes out eventually - we will use most of the data I am sure - and meanwhile we may as well have the best data we can get.

The primary RHS house rule is to be realistic - if you don't think it would be done IRL - don't do it. That covers most things. There are a few technical house rules - but these mostly apply to the Allies - re shipping lanes. If Japan does not go to the map edge it won't have to worry about them.

RHS is a an amplified and more detailed variation of CHS 155 - using a different map scheme which also has rescaled Australia (so short range aircraft are more likely to be able to fly to the right places - although that isn't why we did it - we needed more sea room). There are many more units and lots more details in each unit - and some whole new kinds of units (e.g. blimps) or devices (e.g. Japan gets the Uji BW bomb - in a most marginal sense - limited to either one or a few units - depending on the scenario).

I want a long term test - and I am trying to get a team of Allied advisors - so Allied policy is negotiated rather than dictated by the USA or UK.
There should be a period of study and a careful first turn - it matters big time to Japan. You have a wide range of scenario options - so look at carrier, battleship and cruiser spreadsheet to see what comes in each - and also the RHS manual - to see what the assumptions for each scenario are. There are six strictly historical scenarios - and six Japan enhansed scenarios which are conservatively worked up sets of alternative buy options (Japan gets no more stuff - but it can invest its steel and manpower and aluminum in different ways). I want a good test and will shamelessly advise a Japanese player on concepts and technical options - just don't tell me what you choices you make.

hi el cid (sounds spanish)[;)].

i realy dont want to playtest a MOD although i find it good that someone does this job and develops more great MODs for a great game. wish you fun and succes with your project.

"yamato hugger" wants to play the allied part in our PBEM. and we play CHS.game.

edit: since CHS has huge compatibility problems with vista 64 (modselect does not work with vista 64), it seems that out CHS game will not begin. i simply dont want to tweak around for hours to get a MOD running on my PC.

It is true - el cid is a Spanish title or nickname - associated with a knight - and it literally means "the leader"

I sort of got there as a pun - my middle name is Sidney and I was always called Sid - and I didn't know I had a first name until about age 11.
Turns out my first initial is L - and my official school papers like report cards had me as L Sid - at the time the famous movie came out El Cid -
so it was adopted as an alternative nickname by my classmates. Later - I used it as a code name - which - because I was not associated with the Hispanic community or heritage - was sufficiently misleading - but easy to remember. Ironically - now I am a member of the Hispanic community and sing a Spanish language mass every week - to help my chilld - who has her own Hispanic name - Divina-Gracia - or "divine grace" - which she got more honestly - via her half Filipino mother - Filipinos almost always use Spanish names. Divina - who has half a dozen languages (a victim of living in our house) - decided to learn Spanish in honor of her name about two years ago. I feel the way to learn a language is to immerse and participate in the community. So - at the end of my life - I am more associated with things Hispanic than I was in my youth. My heritage is Cornish.

An interesting perspective. My wife is from the Philippines and as are many of the filipinos, she is part Spanish, however neither of us have an afinity for or feel part of any Hispanic community. Being a filipina, she does have strong roots and ties to the Philippines. At one time in my life I did speak some Spanish due to high school/college lessons followed by work in Madrid and Barcelona.

I am having no issues with Vista 64 bit - my 32 bit stations are down and I use 64 bit exclusively at the moment.
Modselect is not critical - and one can install or move things by hand as required.
We will help you - and so will Andrew I am sure - if you need it.
Good luck.
