Duplicated post from 7.957 update thread:

Soviet Liberty ship Erevan (lost with prisoners en route to Magadan) is added at Seattle in 1943 (slot 7477).

Soviet Liberty ship Odessa is added at Seattle in 1943 (slot 7530).

Soviet Liberty ship K Podolsk is added at Seattle in 1944 (slot 7542) Full name Kamenets-Podolsk

Soviet small AK Nogin is added (slot 7544) at Vladivostok at start.

Soviet small AP Balkhash is added (slot 7526) at Vladivostok at start. This is the first identified Soviet Passenger ship in the Far East in the RHS ship set. [In stock and CHS as created, there was no Soviet Navy. RHS added it, code was changed, and Soviet ports became functional. Before that RHS had to cheat and make ships and ports French. We have added different naval vessels as identified - and this is the first AP so identified. It was lost with prisoners en route to Magadan and documented in an article about "slave ships" for that reason.]

38 Victory ships, 100 old US cargo vessels, and 5 Victory ships were transferred to the USSR during WWII (or just before, depending on what counts as WWII - it being different from the US point of view and Russian point of view). Much of the cargo was Lend Lease for other theaters, and some of the ships didn't even sail in the Pacific (there being other routes for Lend Lease). Further - we don't count half of AKs in RHS for technical reasons - letting the other half model the economy. We don't know how many should be added to account for the cargo used in Far East Front and Trans Baikal Front - but we have been able to identify three of the Liberty ships by name - and one old cargo ship as well - and that is not an excessive number to add. If we had more identified names we probably could add a few more and not risk giving too much capacity to the Soviets. [Ships used for lend lease material not destined for Far East use - as well as ships not even used in the Pacific - do not count. Players use anything they get- so out of theater cargo cannot be put on the map.]

U-183 - which is not available in strictly historical scenarios but was close enough to be used in EOS scenarios - is available from 430310 in JFO. (slot 501)

U-852 is available from 440154 (slot 498)

U-516 is available from 430223 (slot 495)

PT-45/46/47 was added to all scenarios from the start of the game at Hawaii. PT-47 was involved with a famous skipper.

14 other PT units were added which were available between 420115 and 430315 - diverting from other US assignments. All boats delivered to UK, USSR or other nations/applications still happened. This is approximately all the boats available to divert. They are of two kinds: Elco 80 foot and Elco 77 foot.

USS Mackeral - a medium sized US submarine prototype for wartime mass production not used operationally - is available to divert for operations - and it appears at Colon Panama on 420101. Mackeral is class slot 1335 and ship slot 5490.
USS Marlin was an alternative prototype medium submarine built for evaluation. Although medium submarines were quite capable and strongly advocated by Admiral Hart (head of the submarine board), the Navy elected to build only long range fleet boats during the war. Used only for training - this vessel also was available for operations at need. It appears at Colon Panama on 420115. Marlin is new class slot 1700 and ship slot 5564.
These two vessels are very similar, but not identical. Mackeral is slightly faster, Marlin has moderately more range. Both have identical armament. I created an upgrade for them both - replacing the AAMG with 20mm and adding radar - later in the war.

Old S-20 - which served until 16 July 1945 - is redirected to the Pacific and appears at Colon on 420115 (slot 5701).
Old S-48 - which served until 29 Aug 1945 - is redirected to the Pacific and appears at Colon on 420201 (slot 5724).
No other S boats were available and in commission with USN crews - all the rest had been lost, stricken or were transferred to other nations.

Because of the Japan First priority, USS Wyoming was removed from gunnery training status, and converted to USS Arkansas standard, reaching Colon on 430715 as a proper battleship with significant AA suite. (Slot 3179).

No Essex or other large CV are available at any time. All Essex that completed in time served in PTO. The only large CV that might go is Ranger - and it isn't defeined - and needed to run planes to Malta and other Atlantic opeartions. It is not likely to fare well vs IJN. All Independence class CVLs went to PTO - so no more could be sent unless additional conversions were authorized (which happens in EOS family scenarios).

USS Bogue CVE-9, nominally the lead ship in her class (but not the first to become operational), is committed to PTO operations in this scenario - from 430115. USS Card CVE-11 - nominally the second carrier of the Bogue class - is also committed to PTO - mainly for aircraft transport duty - from 430215. Both appear at Seattle - where they were built and worked up. No additional carriers could be made available for PTO before the beginning of 1944 - by which time the numbers problem is solved. This means all critical non PTO missions are maintained and all carriers that went to PTO also went there - excepting CVE-9 and CVE-11 described here.

IMHO the Russians would not know they were "better off" because of JFO - they would still see battle in Europe as critical - and indeed I cannot see how it changes very much?
This is the most likely scenario, I agree. The USSR would liberate most or all of Eurpe "alone" (assisted only by the RAF and Lend Lease deliveries) and the European continent would become communist. Looks like an interesting "what if" scenario for the upcoming cold war...

But over the weekend, a different scenario came to my mind: After the battle of Kursk in 1943, the western front was "almost safe" for the USSR. Stalin might decide to join in the "Japan first" efforts in order to secure "his share" of Asia.
(the Russians apparently didn't make trucks during the war at all).

This is not true. The Soviet production decreased to allow more tank production (lend lease trucks were good trucks, lend lease tanks were much inferior to soviet ones - so they prefered to import trucks), but they did build trucks all over the war. The site http://fat-yankey.livejournal.com/32078.html gives some overview. If you don't understand any Russian: Отечественные means "homeland built", Импортные means imported, трофейные is captured. This should be enough to understand most of the text [;)]

A Cold Warrior - and today living in a past (and future) Russian territory (just ask a Russian politician) - I had to learn a bit - and I use it today in my workplace (we have a Russian colony). I also love Russian choral music - even just pronouncing names of people and places with precision is fun. A majority of Duma members think Alaska was illegally transferred - and should be Russian again. So does a radical new analyst - who has a picture on his wall signifying the return. Alaskans - including Russian Alaskans - won't go along - but there are so few of us a single major formation could overwhelm us.

"If you don't understand any Russian" Nyet for my Russian skills. After these few years I am still learning how to play WitP. So learning Russian will have to be on the back burner for now. =)

Possibly, but after Kursk, the KA needed to advance to keep the German defence from solidifying. Also, there were manpower issues. It wasn't clear Germany couldn't hold the line on the Dnepr, especially given the performance of the 8th Armee further north.

CL USS Cincinatti arrives at Colon Panama on 411223 in company with her sister USS Richmond (which is in all RHS scenarios; Cincinatti is not present in PTO in other scenarios). Slot 3339.

CL USS Memphis same. Slot 3340.

These are 2 of 4 Omaha class CLs which spent the war mainly in the South Atlantic (based at Recife Brazil) and/or in European waters. The other 2 had to stay in those areas of operation.

Packaged and uploaded with this note:

This is a modification of RHSRAO. That is, a modification of the Russian Active version of RHSCVO. That is, this is a strictly historical carrier oriented variant of RHS. It assumes that for whatever reason advocated of a Japan First strategy one. This might be because of the nature of first day attacks. It might be because Germany failed to declare war and Congress had no basis to declare war on Germany yet - which it is assumed changes eventually. It is conservative - to save time making the mod. Even Torch is not cancelled per se - just scaled back slightly.
