I believe the end date in WPO is 1939.

I believe the end date in WPO is 1939.

But we could let 1901 = 2001 etc

A bigger problem with a modern mod would be missiles. How to model them is one thing (ultra-long range naval guns, probably, but how will the surface combat model react to a gun with 100-mile range?), how to model shooting one down is quite another...

The official sales literature says production works in WPO for HUMAN players. So it is clear the code remains.
But it also says the radar was "edited out" - and that may or may not mean they stripped out the code. A number of things in WITP are "hooks" only - try using an undefined nation (guaranteed crash on load). Still - edited out most simply means "we didn't use the device" - and taking out code is a lot more complicated. Might be worth buying it and testing?

The high road is to buy a better product and code from scratch properly.

I've never played or owned it, but have you looked at any of the Harpoon games? Would they have what you are looking for?

Negative.

Harpoon is a board (or even semi-mineatures) game. It has several computer implementations - which all are poor and not editable. It cannot deal with stuff on our scale - strictly limited unit counts. It has no provision for land combat.

That said, Harpoon is a standard, uses the USNI database, and I use it all the time.

What I meant was buy Vassel or something like that and program it. That is a Matrix product FYI.

I've downloaded most of the VASSAL board game conversions from Rodney Kinney's site. I haven't looked closely at everything the engine can do. Do you think it has enough capability? I must admit, I'm not much of a mathematician and even less of a programmer.

Here are some questions for the hardcore modders,
1) what bases, ships or devices absolutely have to be left in the game (using a scenario, not full map). I use witpcheck, so I know some AK, the Okha, ... appear on the list. But what else to avoid a crash?
2) do any of the HQ absolutely have to be in the game, even if renamed?
3) how many pilots can there be in the game at the same time, therefore limiting max aircraft for all squadrons at full TOE?
4) when defining TOE for land units, is it better to list the starting device or the device it should gradually be converting to. e.g. 3.7cm PaK - 5,0cm PaK - 7.5cm PaK, should the TOE list 3.7cm PaK or 7.5cm PaK, if the unit starts with the first one as equipment.

Thanks for your help,
Vista, suerte y al toro!

Bubi is moving along at nice pace the PWHEX is done for panel 13 which I got yesterday
he request 2 additional panels 9 and 14 be added which was done today along with the rivers for this panel
the map has also been made lighter and a darker hex added + seeing that I now have Photoshop CS3 I am trying out some new texture filtering which may turn up the the RHS v7 map

I am attaching a sanmple of panel 13 - seeing its reduced in size and only jpeg the new filter may be hard to make out

So far Bubi is only using about a third of the map that being done which covers the Atlantic
west to include most of Russia so if any other budding modders what to take on a daunting task feel free to contact me for map- + bubi could use all the help he can get

some advertising from my side of the fence for this mod
a lot of work is still being carried out by the Spanish team, from my stand point the map apart from a couple of minor changes is completed - plus the allied air panels are done
(see sample 1) and work is in progress for the Axis air panels (see sample 2)

Cobra, is that German twin-boom an Fw-189?

EDIT: Never mind, I can see that it is. I'd convinced myself that the -189 was asymmetric, but it wasn't.
