Test Map - Possible Mod

Post by geozero »

I wanted to tweak the map...here's my first try. I now know what I've got to do to clean it up, but what do you all think of the graphics for woods, hills and mountains?

This is not to my taste

To me it resembles a 1998 computer game - Alien wars or some such thing.

Yes, I (think I) like it too, especially the woods, rivers and light open spaces. Not so sure about hills and mountains, but I understand those are difficult to draw without making them into repetitive patterns. Think it looks a little like Struggle of Nations. But surely you must retain the hexes!

@ doomtrader,
Could a subsequent patch have an option for black city names, (like the colour option for borders)?
It would make the lighter mods much better.
thanks.

@geozero,
excellent effort.
However, I find the rivers have little contrast with the plain hexes.

Thanks all... this was my first try.  Just wanted to see how easily (or difficult) it was.  When I get ready to tweak this out I will make it more like an old AH board game.  I really always liked the way they did things...

agreed, re: A.H.
I'm working on a black and white Tactics II style map, but it's slow going.

What would really help is if the DEV's provided the original template of the graphics file, becase the hardest thing to do is to define the exact regions in the graphics files to change.  I'm guessing it's a PhotoShop file with layers.  I was able to do this in PS though I admit I did not spend a great deal of time.  Also be sure to SAVE the original file.

Any progress or further interest in completing your map mod?

This game has some great potential.  If the map was spiffed up a bit, it would be even easier to immerse oneself in the experience.  Some railroads/roads, for instance.  You maight say, well do it yourself, but I haven't a clue as to how to do something like that.  Wouldn't mind learning.

I have not had time to go back and tweak the map. I've asked for the graphic template and have not received it. It would make it sooo much easier.

As for adding railroads and other "features" that is not currently possible. The map tools only allow you to make hex "tiles" - I think that was covered somewhere else.
