My question is: The system to apply colours to the different nations is totally new for me.

Colours are html codes, you can refer here:

Some of those NATO symbols are new to me, can you explain them Uxbridge; particularly the infantry with the colored in sides or top/bottom.

The infantry are the same symbols as was frequently used in old Napoleonic games to portray Guards units. I tried to do the more common checkered board squares, but there were an odd number of pixels, so it didn't quite work.

Regarding air units I simple filled the propeller on the armies and will do so even for the strategic bombers in addition to the red box.

When it comes to the armour units I made a slash through the first upgrade; a "bandoliers" covering the box in the second (like mechanized); a filled center symbol in the third; and finally a filled center symbol with bandoliers in the last.

This will give you everything you ever needed to know about NATO symbology...it's now a declassified file.

Make a great read even at 118 pages!!!

Here's a source for WW2 German Symbols: http://books.google.com/books?hl=en&id= ... t#PPA14,M1

Since WW2 predates NATO (and therefore NATO symbols), some gamers have used traditional symbols that were used during WW2 by combatants.  I don't recommend this and prefer to stick to NATO symbols since they are the most widely used and recognized today.  It also keeps consistency between countries.

Sorry for not answering earlier. I read the post while at work and then sort of forgot about it. Thanks for the links.

My main concern when fiddeling with the counters is to distinguish between types. I'm therefore not to concerned about the proper use of symbology. The Guards counter helps me to see what units are Corps and what units are Divisions at a glance. It's even possible to see this in the second zoom mode while having a wide screen. In this screenshot, for an example, you can easily tell the Corps from the Divisions, while in the normal mode one had to examine the "XX's" closely.

All the counters have values in the usual wargaming style.

For example, 1-5, 4-5, 11-6 and others

Some of the factors on the blue counters reasd as 1-x

What does the "x" mean?

x means that a unit is "locked" and cannot move until specific event occurs.

Forgive my ignorance on these counter mods.  I can't figure out how to download them.  Are these mods that you guys have posted for download, or just pictures of what you have done for your own use?

When I click on the attachment links, I just get the picture that is shown in the forum post.  I had thought that would be a link instead to a file for use in modding the game.

Thx for any help.

[later] ok, I figured it out. Now I can't figure out how to delete this post. Oh well.

Actually I only intended the counters for use by myself and my co-gamers in PBEM, but of course you and anyone else are free to have a try as well.

Place the ”units_counters_symbols.pgn”-file in ”Matrix Games/World War 2 Road to Victory/Data/gfx”-folder and the ”countries.csv”-file in the ”Matrix Games/World War 2 Road to Victory/Data/scenarios/EUROPÉ 1939”-folder.

The first one will change the look of the counters, but retains the original colour tones. The second file will change the ”uniforms” of some of the units (Russians from red to brown, Tommies to a brighter, more Khaki-looking tone, etc). Each file could be used independently.

Note that I didn’t do the first darkening/de-colouring of the symbols, someone else took the first step here; I can’t remember who now, but I’m greatful to him for starting.

Make sure to save the current versions of these two files to somewhere safe first. In case you don’t like the change, simply place the originals back, overwriting the new files.

Here it is:

hi.

I'm new to this game and forum, but I think the mods are fantastic. By the way I've been playing avalon hill's board game Third Reich since I was a young guy but since I'm an only child I always played alone.... This game is very similiar, and now I don't have to play with myself anymore!!!!! [:)]

Dear Mikel,

I could not agree more.  I got this game in mid August and I have played it every chance I get since then.  I have lost a lot of sleep campaigning!  It reminds me so much of my "Third Reich" days, and I have had such fun playing from "savepoints".  I will play the Axis to a point where they are looking good, then save the game and go back later and replay it as the Allies.  This gives me the challenge of playing against "myself" but with the AI to handle the mechanics.  I have gotten my set of saved games to where I can pick a startpoint with the Danes, or Greeks involved, the Axis nearly there, or the Allies, the British sweeping North Africa, or the Italians, or whatever.  I am thinking of modding the files for different models : lower production, more expensive armor, different naval models, more powerful small countries.  I love this game!

Works fine for me. Click on the "attachment", then on the "counters.zip"-text in the smaller box that pops up. You have to be logged in to do it, I think. If it doesn't work, send me a new private message with your e-mail adress and I'll send it!

As Uxbridge says left click the link and a window appears. Do not right click and "Save target as".
